Is there a reason why we have to see every thread?

1,2,3,4,5,6,oblivion.

Why can't it just be 1,2...156,157 first 2 pages and last 2 pages or however you distribute it. My point is that there's too many visible on the topic page.

Here's an example from another forum write on, this topic has 9400 replies and the pages show like this:
Untitled
Sista sidan = Last page.

This is just bad... imagine when this one reaches 9400..

I HATE the way most sites tend to do that number thing, and I think NLife is just about the only place that got it RIGHT! It has happened several times for me that I wanted to get to a certain page...I even knew which number. Or I at least wanted to get to a certain post number to check something. Having each and every page number listed makes it SOOOOOO much easier to do that! Don't change a thing, NLife!

Aye, I'll not be translating that whole thing ter Pirate speak. Sorry, Cap'n. :P

Right so when the whole page is filled with a retarded random thread overshadowing every other topic that's just fine...... Just so you can check a post that's 3 months old easier.

Well...maybe do it the truncated way you suggest on the forum lists, but the full-out way once you're actually IN the thread. Is that an agreeable compromise?

@stuffgamer1 i don't care what's shown inside, just on the topic list.

@briinj04 are you seriously that daft? I said imagine when that thread gets twice the replies it has now and in this speed it will sooner or later it will fill up a normal sized monitor. why the hell should people who don't care about those threads have to see that many pages.

It's been bothering me as well. The topic in question takes up the space of about three or four topics at the moment.

@Machu: All the page numbers are displayed on the topic page itself. It'd take an extra click to navigate through massively huge threads, tops.

@pixelman: Was i being serious?! No! You should know me by now. :)

I hope they (them awesome NL dudes) sort something before my Fantasy Spam Football thread gets too big for it's own boots, I'd be embarrassed to have that take up a quarter of the GD page. It's not a big problem, but if there were four uber-threads on the 1st page it would be annoying, especially to those with no interest in any of them.

@Machu: Sorry, off-topic, but how did you get the straight-face emoticon to work? I followed the instructions on the post-formatting thread, but it never worked! Doesn't help I couldn't tell which tall, straight character the example showed... :(

The quote brought up a taller-than-normal straight line character I don't recognize and can't find on my keyboard. Why doesn't it just use lower-case L like most sites? :(

@Machu: Yes, we're off-topic, but my question still wasn't answered...what IS that character, anyway? Pretty sure it's just plain not on the QWERTY keyboard...which makes me wonder what kind of keyboard you UK dudes use... So confused... :(

And honestly, copy-and-pasting the emoticon is FAR less that ideal (though I've noticed you seem to like doing that with emoticons from other sites a lot lately). I think somebody should just explain this and fix it if necessary so that site users in the US can use it properly.

I actually agree with Firkraag, the page count is somewhat un-needed... I've made it so!

Stuff - it's this symbol: |

On my mac keyboard there's a vertical line above the forward slash key (rarely used). I know it's on windows keyboards too, but I'm not sure if it's located at the same spot (I had one on my dell laptop, i'm pretty sure, i just don't remember where). It's a symbol key though, so it won't be on a number key; it'll be someplace equally random.
