Topic: Suggestion for site : toughen up wiiware review scores.

I love wiiware, the idea of it, and some great games.

But you cannot resell ANYTHING -you download a turd and it is over, money gone, no refunds.

So we need tougher scores and higher expectations - I am not saying to blast mediocre games/poor - but just let us know that if we spend money on a game - it will be worth it. I guess I do not know what to think when every game is listed as average or better.

Just seems to me the reviewers are a little to chummy and forgiving to the products on some reviews - we all want wiiware to succeed, but the customer is more important in the end. I am also concerned when I read prviews with a tag such as 'company 'X" listens to the fans!' and there is a lot of hype on an unproven game and the DEVELOPER is in the comment section cheering on the previewer or vice versa. Major conflict of interests.

It is cool that game makers and reviewer have quick feedback - but where do you draw the line for the integrity of reviews and previews? I think some writers here are too close to their work and the game makers and maybe want to protect or shelter games. Like : 'this game deserves a 3 or a 4, but I will go 6 or 7 cause he is a really cool guy and it is awesome for the boards that the devs are here commenting.'

Just was wondering what people thought on that.

Ben Cartwright: You and your education.
Adam Cartwright: Education is progress! Now what have you got against it?
Ben Cartwright: I don't have anything against education - as long as it doesn't interfere with your thinking!

I've not experienced any problems with the scoring. Have you even read the scoring policy?

There have been quite a few 1-4 star WiiWare games.

They write honest reviews in my opinion.

Agreed.

If you are unsure about purchasing a game based on the score it receives I suggest reading the review again, if this still leaves you unsure then check some other sites to see their opinion of a particular game.

I know Scribblenaughts is not a Wiiware game, but from all the hype I have seen surrounding this game, I was glad to see Nintendo Life did not let this hype and possible backlash from certain users get in the way of reviewing the game fairly and pointing out the faults this game has.

I think for the most part they do a pretty good job.

I don't give a sh*t who makes the game or who I'm friends with. I review a game the way I see it. I've ticked some people off over the past year and lost some of those friends, but that's the way it goes.

Plain old gamer :)

The reviews here are GREAT, dude. The reviewers know what they are talking about.

I don't see anything wrong with the current system. Keep up the good work NL.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

And thats how you shoud review it! Even if I disagree with some of your scores and other things you have said, this is why I trust you as a reviewer, if you were paid, you should have the fatest paycheck!

I've only been working for the site for a short time, but I've been visiting it since I discovered vc-reviews, and I'm pretty sure I've been visiting WiiWare World as long as it existed.

I've never had any reason to suspect corruption on the part of the reviewers. Sometimes review scores do seem excessively high, but they are balanced out by the scores that seem excessively low, and the fact that reviewers do not all think alike. Never have I suspected this site of currying favor, and I have many times seen developers pimp their upcoming wares in the comments sections only to receive a very negative review upon the game's release.

By the same token, look at World of Goo, which got WiiWare's only perfect 10. I've never even SEEN those developers here. Presence on the site doesn't make a high score more likely, and absence doesn't make a lower score more likely.

If I HAD suspected this kind of toadying on the part of WWW/NL, I wouldn't have stuck around, and I doubt anybody else on these forums would have either.

MM9 got lower than 10 only because Capcom's crew didn't post in the comments. What a corrupt site.

Come on, friends,
