maybe i'm missing something, but if someone makes a reply to a message posted, such as "@wanderlustwarrior", is there a way to be aware of when a reply was made?

I've always thought that would be a good idea. I guess I should've said something.
On twitter, I recieve all my @replies in a seperate page.

Something else that would be appreciated would be the opportunity to send private messages to other users.
