Yeah, PM's would definitely be nicer for organizing tournaments. >_>

But really, it would cut down on posts that could easily be in a chat or PM's, so some topics would be much easier to navigate.

ditto

it needs to be done. We could network friend codes and then people would take them out of their signature (finally)

Guys,

Do we really need a private message feature? Surely adding MSN/ICQ/GTalk etc etc accounts into our profiles (and friend codes) and then make them available on the profiles (when logged in). Would suffice?

No point reinventing the wheel

Except that not everyone has the same chat services. I use GMail to chat, but I don't think most people have that. It seems silly that if I want to talk to someone privately on the forum who does not have the same software, I will have to download Skype to talk to one guy, and then MSN to talk to someone else, etc. when it is one of the most basic and universal features of internet forums.

Plus, IMing is not the same as leaving a message. I don't think all those services allow offline messages. GMail for instance would send it as an email, and not everyone wants to give out his email address.

I'll live either way, but it would be a nice feature, and it's a reasonable request, I thought. Oh well, I'd just be happy to have a feature added where I'm quoted as anything other than weirdadam.

@Adam, yeah we totally appreciate that it's a common feature on forums, but as you know we've intentionally left out a lot of common forum features because we don't think they are great (post counts for example). We're on the fence with private messaging at the moment, its certainly not a priority for us (user reviews system is #1 atm), so maybe we'll consider it again in the future

No post count is a great decision, thanks. That really leads to ridiculous behavior on other forums, which is a big reason why this is the only forum I visit anymore, so you guys are doing a great job!

In theory PMs are good, but they are also potentially open for use by abuse and the people who run the site may not want to deal with that.

I can see uses for them, but I can also understand if it doesn't get actioned.

How about open messaging, people sometimes address topics to others, why not give a section on the forums for this.

How can PMs be abused, Sean? I don't follow that, but even if so, couldn't you include a report button or allow a block list if someone is for some reason privately annoying you?

Are you guys serious?

Block people you don't like and throw in a report button. Now what problem could there be?

This would greatly clean up the forums. No more of those "Hey dude when you gonna be home tonight so we can play Smash Bros?"

Even just a open chat room for people to arrange their online matches, talk about random stuff etc. I do believe it would clean up the forums a little. Saying that it isn't really a problem for me but either a PM system or some form of chat room would be beneficial for others.

Victoria

I still would like a PM feature. There's somebody on here that plays on the same DS game as I do. I'd like to be able to chat with him/her more about it, but I don't really want everyone else being bored reading our 2-way discussion. And there are some people I wouldn't mind exchanging friend codes with, but I really wouldn't want everyone on here seeing them.

Bullying, stalking, etc., but you're right reporting and all that could be done. I expect this will take some time and thus be lower on the priority list...
