These are just two examples - Lego Marvel Avengers and Lego The Hobbit. Marvel got a review score of 6 and The Hobbit a 4. Why?
If it's bugs, I have had a lot more bugs with the newer Lego games. If it repetitive gameplay, they are equal. If it the open world, The Hobbit has a much more unique and not a bland city.
These two games are just examples of the unfair reviews that people do use to decide if they should get a game or not.
However, reviews are always subjective to a degree and will contain personal opinions. All our reviews use the same scale which is used to determine a score. Whilst I can't speak specifically for those games I would hope that reviews outline the differences as to why they scored differently.
Rest assured the editorial team always strive for consistent reviews from all contributors.
I don't see the inconsistency. Just because two games are from the same series doesn't mean they will have the same score.
Plus, reviews are opinions. You can read them to have an idea, but they won't always match up with your experience. Skyward Sword is very well reviewed, and yet I extremely dislike the game. It doesn't mean reviews are bad, it merely means I have a different opinion.
@Joeynator3000 I read NintendoLife reviews to find out whether a game is actually good or bad, not if a reviewer personally thinks they are good or bad. Whereas I watch Youtube review videos like AVGN and others like him because I am interested in hearing their personal opinions. There is a big diffeence between the two. No offense to any of the reviewers here, but I'm not intetested in any of their personal opinions, just give me the facts.
If I were to review team sports games, I'd rate them all very low because my personal opinion is that I don't enjoy playing any team sports games. Are there actually some very good team sports games; yes of course - but I still don't enjoy playing them. Which would be a useless review for a site like NintendoLife because as I said, people want the facts about whether a game is good or not.
As for numerical scores, they serve as a single or double digit summary of the review text and I believe the score should accurately reflect the text. Numerical scores are only useless if for example the review text gives the impression of the game being average but awards the game with an excellent score. That doesn't help anybody.
