Haha, okay so the version number thing was a bit of an in-joke when I updated the chat for the new design (if you hadn't figured it out, it's random).
To be honest, I'm not really sure what to do with the chat. When I originally created it the purpose was just to see if it was possible and obviously it was. I've not removed it because I know some of you guys still use it (even if it isn't that great).
I don't really see how it fits into the website, we have live blog / chat for those events when we're all around, but just a general "all day" chat? I'm not sure how much it would be used and it's easily abused as mods can't be expected to monitor a real time chat too.
If enough people really, really, really want it then I guess it can be upgraded; but I'm not sure there is a huge appetite for it to be honest.
I'm happy to be proven wrong.
To be fair, it's not exactly shown anywhere on the site. I'd say give it a trial run of a few days and see how it turns out.

Also like Waluigi said, the other chat is never active during the daytime except for maybe once in a blue moon lol.

Honestly why do we need to worry about the chat when the regular forums are like the same 10-15 people posting over and over, with the occasional person who pops in then never posts ever again.
On the one hand, if you put the chat up in the front page, it would be flooded with traffic, and it should be impossible to have conversations, just like during events. On the other hand, that isn't to say the event chats aren't exciting, and you can often have a few exchanges with people. I guess I don't really care either way.
