FWIW, I think a NintendoLife chatroom would be a bad idea. Too many people forget that when they run out of things to talk about, they should log off. Instead, the spin up the stupidest topics, start flame wars, and generally get pretty nasty toward one another. Keeping things in line can become a full time job.
That being said, if you still want a chat room, I can recommend the ShoutBox on DSiCade. A number of posters there are already NintendoLife members and I certainly wouldn't mind if everyone here helped push the discussions more toward video games.
Maybe try at times when there are people on this site. It tends to really quiet down this time of night.

I thought that way before Roopa, but it seems there are still very few people on here at this time. I dunno if it's me, but I see a lot of forum action at around 4 PM eastern standard.
Just for the sake of transparency, we now have an official chat at https://www.nintendolife.com/chat It's not packed with features at the moment but you'll still be able to have a quick chat with other Nintendo fans there - and hey, maybe even a writer or two! - at any time.
