At the moment i'm dreaming about a "like" and a "dislike" button.
It would be used in posts in the news section and the forum of the site. Surprisingly if you click on 'em it the user can see that there's someone (dis)liking what he said.
Background:
I can see a lot of harsh / sarcastic comments on posts here. While often i don't have something to say on the topic i'd still like people to see that i like their ideas / thoughts / jokes. I think these buttons would be a great way to do that. And it could lead to less derailing of threads too.

Then the threads would get with Youtube-style comments such as...

8 people got beaten by Bowser.
14 people never had a childhood.
etc.

These are extremely irritating comments.

Insead of a Like/Dislike why not have user ratings on all items on the site?
Ie - A game could have a Review rating & a User rating (The user rating could have comments on reasoning for the rating)
This would help users choose their next game?
Just a though

AND
Everyone was beaten by Bowser at some point

@Tj92: I don't really know what it's handled like on other sites. This is the only internet-community i'm active in right now.
I think it would be enough if the following people see the ratings and who made them:

  • The user who wrote the comment.
  • The admins of the forum.

It would make the user feel better and maybe make it easier for "supervisors" to decide which thread should be locked and which should be kept open.
And you could sort the threads by their popularity. Which i'd keep strictly optional though.

This probably isn't posted in the right place, but I didn't want to create an entirely new thread just to ask "When was the Around the Web box added?"

Also, I disagree with LTD's suggestion about "Like/Dislike" option.

no offense, but the console itself isn't important — the games are. without games to play, you may as well have just bought yourself quite the expensive doorstop for all the good it'll do you.

exactly! i'm flabbergasted by all these sites giving a number to the 3DS itself. are they going to re-review it come Summer after all the updates and good games come out?

I have seen it a few times really didnt look into it that much. To be honest I thought it was some kind of glitch. I have only seen it a few times when the screen is loading where is it suppose to be?

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the new "Around the web" box. I'm interested in what's going on on this site, which is why I'm here. Granted, I'm sure not everyone feels this way, though...

Where is this around the web box supposed to be. Never mind I see it on a news article.

Ok I found it but yeah I have to agree with Mugen, I dont find much use for it since all I need for news I get here but who knows some others might find it useful. Its nice too see new updates and features.

My suggestion is that the amount of Points a game costs to download should appear on the list of games released if you sort by region (since the cost of games is sometimes different between Europe and America).

WaveBoy, you can edit posts if you don't get it right the first time, or delete them entirely if you just can't get them right.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Agreed i would like to of seen for a while now in eg, DSiware or Wiiware etc a Points column and also the option to sort the list by Points in the drop down menu's because on many occasions ive wished to searc for the best 200 or 500 point games and i have to search through the whole lot in order to do so.

Quite honestly, O don't like it one bit. The pages it links you to are filled with popups, ads which roll open and play the Alienware add with sound (I've seen this same add on NL A LOT as of late, and it's REALLY annoying!), clicking an article either opens in a new window/tab (which quickly makes for a very messy layout), and finally, most of the articles are out of date.

I know there's not much you can do about other sites being sloppy, but maybe you should link to a better site/link more directly to the articles displayed in the box (Normally you have to go through two to three pages before you can actually reach the article.).

I find it mostly distracting, especially when I'm trying to read a news article. I've clicked on it a few times to check things out, but so far I haven't seen anything that makes me glad it's there.

Not a huge fan of the Around the Web box. It just links to portals which then link to the article you were looking for in the first place. It reminds me far too much of those annoying Google search results that just lead you to a spammier search engine before finally you reach... a page you've already seen from the first search result back on Google. I don't much like being sent on wild goose chases across multiple websites just to find the one article that was advertised in the first place.

@WaveBoy: 'you guys' is actually one guy — Ant. He's got a day job and his own IRL stuff to deal with, same as all the rest of us do. he's got to juggle that along with other behind-the-scenes projects to actually keep the site up and running as well as the eventual promised front-of-house site upgrades. your continued patience is much appreciated. :3
