I just joined Nintendo Life today, even though I've been around for a while looking at the news topics without commenting. So when I registered, I thought I might as well check the forum. But, what's that, no search function for the forum? Or am I simply missing something? I don't want to open a topic on a subject that already exists so, if there's a search function, where is it, and if not, will it come at some point? Because I sure ain't gonna plow through a few dozen pages just to find that one topic.

There's a search icon on the top of the screen, but that might not be for the foums. Besides that I don't see one either.

Nope.. I just tested. It only brings up games from the front page, as far as I see.

I don't know if there is a link anywhere on the forums, but I once deleted a topic and then clicked on the topic and I was brought to this:
http://www.nintendolife.com/forums/search
I was woundering the same thing

@Yosher: the dudes in charge know the search function is kinda broken, and it's one of many things on the list to be worked on, lol... you can use Google to directly search the forums if you like, but it can be tricky to work with. Just start your search with 'site:www.nintendolife.com' and it should focus the search to NL for you. :3

Hrmm.. it's odd that the site doesn't have a link to that anywhere. But then again, when I tried searching there, this is what I got:

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LIMIT 1' at line 6

(SELECT uri, created FROM dgp_topics AS content WHERE (content.title LIKE 'super mario' OR content.body LIKE 'super mario'))
UNION
(SELECT content.uri, content.created FROM dgp_comments AS content INNER JOIN dgp_topics AS t ON content.parent=CONCAT('dgp:', t.uri) WHERE (content.title LIKE 'elite beat agents' OR content.body LIKE 'elite beat agents'))

LIMIT 0, 20

.. so I guess it's just not there because it doesn't work properly?

Edit: I know about looking through Google like that but I think the forum should have its own search function, as well!
And where's that topic? Am I that blind or are you messing with me? XD

Adding to what theblackdragon said, you should structure your query like this, for maximum google enjoyment:

site:nintendolife.com inurl:forums "my search here"

So, here is an example result, searching for threads that mention "A Link to the Past" (although I really should also look for "ALttP," considering everyone's love of abbreviation).

EDIT: Also, to look specifically for recent threads, you can click Show Options just above the results, and then click Recent Results.

That's a good solution of course, but I still think the forum would be better off with its own (working) search function. Not everybody knows they can use Google for it, and not everybody comes into this topic either. But if it's being worked on, then I'm satisfied, I suppose. =P

Yes, it does need one; once we get that there will be zero tolerance on duplicate threads!

I use advanced search from google myself, if you want to search the entire forum, open forums copy the address, for a specific forum open that such as wii or retro, now on the google advanced search tab, paste the adress in the "search within a site or domain" area, and at the top of the page add a key word or more to narrow the search.

@Reala

That accomplishes exactly the same thing as typing your query the way I did above; it's just whichever is easier for you, but I prefer to write the domain (site:) and subdomain (inurl:) commands myself to using the Advanced fields.

If this site was only allowed to add one more feature, it would have to be the forum search. There's good threads buried in the pile, but existing members and newcomers shouldn't have to wade through 30/40/50 pages to find it. It's a shame, as duplicate threads are extremely yawnsome, yet they are everywhere.

Even this one is a duplicate. Ha.

The search feature here is pretty useless in it's current form.

It's good for finding articles on the site; not as good for finding forum topics...
