Topic: Does NL hate Just Dance?

And there I go believing that a 7 out of 10 was a good score.

Now, to be quite frank, the real problem here is the odd amount of people obsessively waiting to read the reviews only and exclusively to get a laugh and insult anything rated under 8.... Or feeling deeply insulted if they happen to like said games

I'd argue a 7/10 is far too generous as a huge rhythm game fan. In my opinion these games rank among the lowest of the low in terms of music games.

This is a signature.

Have you played the latest of them, that is, Just Dance 4 and 2014? Can you make the distinction between the quality offered by Just Dance and the poor imitations offered by competing games like "We Dance"?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that perhaps rayword's opinions just differ from your own, and neither is any more or less valid than any other.

Hey, now that I say that out loud, it explains everything! Weird.

The thing is, NL used to be more reliable in the past. Their reviews and scores corresponded better with my taste and I found good games thanks to them. But this thing with Just Dance is just unexplainable by "one person's opinion" or "unquantifiable valuations", because even the review texts themselves don't support the sudden drop in Just Dance scores.

It's completely fair to not agree with every review or every reviewer, but have you considered that your own tastes may have changed? I am not a fan of dancing games, and I have never reviewed a Just Dance game, but I recognize that a 7 is a great score per our Scoring Policy. That being said, I'm still not going to play Just Dance.

Just because a game is scored a certain way does not mean that everyone will like it or agree. If you're a fan of the Just Dance series, then this score should help you recognize that it's a solid entry. If you're not a fan, then this score should help you recognize that, while it's not a bad game at all, it probably won't convert you.

Stop reading too far into numbers, stop accusing websites of being biased one way or another, and go enjoy the games that you enjoy. As the title says, just dance!

This thread gave me cancer.

On a scale of 1-10, on no planet can 7 be considered bad. Can you not see that? If 5 is average and 10 is a masterpiece then 7 is good, even bordering on great.

And if you don't like Game & Wario or Sonic Lost Worlds, you should probably not have a Nintendo console anyway, as you're in the wrong place completely. Those types of colourful platforming games and minigame collections will be coming out of our ears. (BTW, in my opinion they're both a ton of fun, that's your choice if you think differently but you can't use them as an example of a BAD game as they're not generally considered to be).

Maybe you enjoyed it more than the reviewer. I would think that's literally all there is to it. I would imagine for a gaming reviewer who has to play virtually every new game that comes out, a dancing game would be quite an annoyance, especially when there's two that are pretty much the same. At the end of the day a reviewers job is just to express their opinion on a game, and I don't think anyone should read a review expecting to have the same opinion.

Lastly Just Dance games are casual experiences and barely even classifiable as video games when you really think about it. You only have to play a few songs and you've experienced everything the game has to offer, so an 8 or 9 would be well out of order, in my opinion.

Wish I read this post before I posted myself. This says it all. That sums up what a 7 should mean to everyone.

Yup yup, a 7/10 is a good review... 5/10 is what is considered "below average". Sounds like they actually liked the games quite a bit to me.

5/10 is obviously not considered to be "below average", but exactly average.
It even also says so here on NL's scoring policies: https://www.nintendolife.com/scoring

Just to pitch in on the Sonic Lost World score again — man, I have to justify it a lot — I still feel that the review as a whole reflects the game as a whole, which is my whole opinion — and I'm guilty of a whole lot of repetition in that sentence. The basic thing with Sonic Lost Worlds is that some moments are fantastic, some are pretty good, and some teeth-gnashingly frustrating. So when I wrote that review and scored it, it was an overall impression and to outline how I think the game stacks up as a complete product. It was simple in my mind — part amazing + part decent + occasionally annoying / overall impression = good (which is a 7 on our scale).

Forgive me, but playing something for lots of hours, working on a review and then having people repeatedly bash me over the head with that particular cherry picked bit of the conclusion — ignoring the context of all the words I'd written — is getting old.

Yeah, people these days only care about the numbers in reviews...and not the review itself. It's kinda annoying.

sincerely I only care for the review itself for games I want. otherwise I look at the number and if it's lower or far higher than I expected(especially if lower ) I read the review.

For me I only care about the score if its lower than expected, then I just go and look for more opinions/reviews to compare and all that. But yeah, everyone needs to learn to READ. xD

@KeeperBvK: Oh sorry! And here I was thinking a 6/10 meant average >.< So 4/10 is below average. Got it.
And also, that means that a 7/10 means they liked it more than I thought...

Waiting for Nintendolife's Just Dance 2015 coverage. There's a trailer out there, sample songs, developer tidbits... yet nothing on Nintendolife.

Look at the retail scores - exclude VC / eshop. The Average isn't 5. When I first started coming to this site the Nintendo Life Metacrtiic was above 70.

For it to be an average most games should be getting 4 / 5 or 6.
