Topic: Dedicated eSports Section?

eSports are getting pretty big, in case you hadn't noticed, and sometimes talk about certain games can get bogged down by people discussing the eSports parts of it. Should we have a separate area where we can discuss eSports stuff? I figure it would be its own section, probably in the Off-Topic area, that way we could have separate Threads running for each game in eSports. That way we don't have LoL people trying to talk over Smash people trying to talk over Counter Strike people.

That is my suggestion at least.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

This is actually a really solid idea, it'd help for all the EVO and Genesis discussions- and we could relocated some of the Nlife tournament threads over there as well.

I dunno, it feels a bit unnecessary.

Like... We'd have a thread for a game in the system forum, another one in the online gaming forum, another one in the esport forum.

Which leads to more thread lockings or scoldings and saying "this discussion belongs here", which draws more confusion.

Can we please call it something other the eSports though like how bout Competitive Gaming. ESports just sounds stupid. I mean to think that something like CoD or Smash Bros belongs in the same groups as football, baseball etc. They are video games not sports. You don't go into Big 5 and by a controller or keyboard and mouse do you?

I agree, it sounds like a bad Wii game trying to be Wii Sports or an EA game.

@Tasuki: I also don't like the name eSports, but for different reasons. I actually feel like competitive gaming should just be called a sport and not classified differently. You don't classify certain sports as leg sports, arm sports, or ball sports, they are just sports. Why are video games classified as something different than sports just because they require a Screen of some sort to play.

But for Forum purposes I understand the need to differentiate them and eSports or Competitive Gaming are probably the best way to do so. Competitive Gaming might even be confusing too in some ways.

I could not agree with you more. "eSports" is a quite frankly a ridiculous and stupid name, and i definitely prefer "Competitive Gaming". Calling it a sport is just ... i mean, come on. Chess isn't a sport, but it's still one of the most competitive games in existence. To me, it always feels like those who want to classify competitive gaming as a sport have some sort of inferiority complex (BTW, this is not directed at anyone in particular, it's just how i feel about how it is stupid to call it a "sport").
