The recent gun thread in the Wii forum made me realise this, thought I'd raise it as an issue.
There's no room on the NL forum to exchange ideas on politics, religion etc etc. While I agree that it can be unwelcome in some threads and forums, leading to heated tempers and bad feelings, it would also be a good idea to have a sanctioned debate forum for civilised discussion.
After all, politics and world issues are important topics.
I agree that we should have some sort of debate forum, but I feel some people go a bit over the top when it comes to debates (including myself ) which is why it's probably frowned upon here.

Actually I was writing out a long reply in the gun topic, clicked post and it was gone...
Y'know I don't know what the problem was with such a thread. Debates are healthy, they're a good way to express your oppinion to people who will listen and also hear their point of view. Just because a topic looks like a heated arguement doesn't mean it's anything bad. There's no name calling, no threats - just differing oppinions and I really don't see anything wrong with that.
I'm a bit concerned that good discussions on here could be closed in future just because of a bit of debate or differing oppinions, which certainly isn't a good way to run a forum.
It's a dumb idea if you come up with dumb topics, I agree.
Well proven.
But of course I have faith that this community is smart enough to debate relevent and interesting topics like gay rights and gun control.
I know you mean no harm, Waltz, but bringing up a thread that is about debates regarding politics, economy, or religion could start a plethora of debates (or worse, arguments).
That's the point. Debating is healthy for the mind.
