I have a suggestion for the site, which has been bugging me for a while now. Particularly in huge forums like GoldenEye 007 (Wii) Match-ups (which, I think, has the most posts of any thread on NL, woot) we should be able to increase the number of posts visible per page. This would be especially useful for times when someone needs to catch up on all the stuff they missed if they've been away from NL for a long time. Scrolling through 20 posts per page gets annoying after a while. Also, some people are still stuck with crappy internet connections or mobile devices, so the option to have less posts per page would be useful, too. Having the option to navigate pages on the top of the thread would be useful, too, rather than having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page every time to go to the next/previous page in the thread.

This. I hate sometimes getting the page wrong and having to scroll again, it's even worse when it's a thread with lots of pics/youtube videos.

@grenworthshero Would you want to be able to choose varying numbers of posts per thread, or just set it to 50 overall?
I am not ignoring you. I just do not post much.

Personally, it would be best to set it to a higher number of posts, but I'm not sure what kind of trouble that would cause for people who don't have very good connections/computers when visiting threads heavy with pics/vids.

Oh, and I forgot about those who browse with the Wii's pretty horrible internet browser. I'd love it if we had the option to choose even 100, but loading something like that is just laughable with the Wii.

Upping the number of loaded posts to 100 would increase our bandwidth significantly, but it's on the table and we'll see what Ant has to say. We'll do some calculations.

If we were to change anything it would likely be set by the user — you could choose fewer per page, for example.

Oh thank goodness for user options

This brings up something i've been thinking about lately — would it be possible to have an option to not load embedded YouTube videos? I know LiveJournal does this thing where they show a placeholder that you can click of your own accord if you're that interested in seeing what a user wanted to show you, but a bare link would work too IMO... saves loading time for users on slower connections or older computers.
