Topic: Bad advertisements

Nintendolife is one of the rare sites that I whitelist (well I still block Twitter and Facebook) and usually do not have problems. I like the site and understand that advertising is how you support yourself. However, the past few weeks, I have had to at times turn the Disconnect filters fully on to get webpages to load. When I look at the browser stats in Chrome the ad in question is pulling 100% of a processor core and completely locks everything up. I wish I could tell you the ad (and ad server) that is misbehaving, but the page crashes before it ever actually loads (and generally only renders a small part of the page before crashing). Since I have to enable the Disconnect settings, I don't see the ad that is causing the issue.

I really like your site and do not want to leave Disconnect running, but something your third party advertisers are doing is making your site randomly unusable right now.

EDIT: Ironically, I attempted to turn Disconnect back off (only blocking Twitter and Facebook) and was hung up on "waiting for cm.g.doubleclick.net" before the entire page crashed. Hope it helps.

@Darknyht thanks for the feedback, annoying doubleclick.net is one of the biggest hosting sites for ads, so probably won't help track it down. I've passed your feedback onto our ads team and hopefully they might be able to help, sorry for the annoyance!

No problem at all. I am mostly concerned that yet another ad server has been compromised for malicious purposes. Honestly my biggest issue with advertisements are not the ads (well, autoplay flash ads are from the deepest pits of hell), it is the fact that they generally are hosted third party. I have trust in the staff of Nintendolife, but not so much for the ad hosting companies. They have been compromised too often, have a horrible track record for addressing the underlying issues, and I have wasted too many hours cleaning malware off of people's machines due to their incompetence (at best, criminal negligence at worse).

To me it is like having your best friend show up at your door with the 60 random strangers he brought with him and wanting to vouch for their safety. No matter how much I trust my friend and how slim the odds are that one of those random people are a freak, I am not letting them through my door to roam around in my house.

I tolerate the ads here because I want to see the site succeed. I would prefer to have the option to just subscribe and remove the ads.
