Topic: Avatar weirdness

Recently I gave myself an avatar, but I promptly removed it by checking the box to do so and clicking Save. Or at least, that's how it was supposed to go…

Although my avatar no longer appears on article comments sections or on my profile, it does still appear on forum posts and, less importantly, in the space next to the search bar and next to the field to add a comment on articles. (If there is actually a punctuation smiley next to this post, then it must just be some problem on my end. I tried clearing my cookies, though, and that solved nothing.)

I'm fine with this avatar, but this bug is still worth looking into.

Do you mean that you replaced it? If that's the case, then give it about an hour or two (or in few cases a day) and it will fix itself.

Try reloading the main page that always works for me.

If you look at his profile, he removed any avatar he had. But it is showing up in this thread here, which is the glitch.

No, I mean I checked this box and clicked Save. (In order to take that screenshot, I had to add my avatar back. I “removed” it again, though.) Maybe waiting would work (I didn't know that was a thing!), but the avatar had only just reappeared a few hours ago. It was after I had gone back a page after posting and receiving a 503 error when the next page (the thread I posted in, updated with my post) failed to load.

@BearHunger On the main page, your avatar of the gliding face appears in the recent forum topics as well. Which means it is strictly a fourm issue.
I assume that maybe the refresh rate for avatars in the forums is slower than in the main page for some reason? Strange though, if they are all one unified account. Eventually, this glitch does fix itself out though; it happened to me once over a year ago and is fine now.
Not that it took a year to fix, but it is an existing glitch. It affected me for say, a few days at most.

Interesting. Well, if it ever does get fixed, I'll probably just add the avatar back anyways. (I'll wait to see that it does, first, to make sure.)

You could also use another avatar untl this one disappears, if you don't want the one.

The gitch used to be where users old avatars would show up for a long time on the recent forum topics section (widget I assume) even after they changed in the forums itself, I believe that one is fixed though and now they both only lag a little but the same timing... but I may just not have noticed it lately.

Yeah, we do use some caching so that images aren't downloaded on every page request - as that would be very slow! - I've just made some changes that should make things behave a little better though, if in doubt click refresh and things should sort themselves out
