Many if not all consumers complain about the lack of an account system with the eShop for Wii U and 3DS. I myself would love that to happen in case my system gets stolen.

I realized a huge side benefit to Nintendo's approach. It enables you to actually sell your digital games. Since the purchase is tied to the device instead of a person's account those purchased games can be deleted from the system and re-downloaded to it free of charge - even if the owner is a different person with different payment information etc.

You can of course transfer your data to a new 3DS, but if you wanted to remove your personal information from the 3DS and keep the games there you could when you want to upgrade to the 4DS or whatever the next one is ... you could sell a fully loaded 32 or 64GB 3DS with tons of eShop titles and perhaps makeup what you did spend to buy those games.

I am someone that likes to hang onto their games, so this is not something I would want to do, but for those that do want to sell their games and systems it seems that Nintendo's approach will actually work for that.

Haha - yea I mean selling to eBay or to a friend not some stupid corporation that wouldn't want to mess with selling an enhanced system with games preloaded.

...but on the other hand, I'd still have to pay $5 to $10 to play the same Virtual Console game on my Wii U. How many Nintendo fans actually paid $5 more just to play Metroid and other Virtual Console games on the 3DS and the Wii U? I won't buy any Virtual Console games on my Wii U unless I know that any games that I buy on the Wii U will allow to me to download again on my 3DS. It's tough, because I really want to play EarthBound, but I'd rather play it on my 3DS.

Talking more about retail downloads - I would pay a heck of a lot more for a 3DS that came preinstalled with a 32GB or 64GB card with eShop versions of ACNL, DKCR3D, NSMB2, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 3D etc. That would be a valuable system that would increase its value quite a bit I'd wager - you would just need to find a buyer that understands what they are buying.

Now that's a tempting and valuable offer. At least I would understand what I'd be buying. ;)

Also a small but nice factor is security. As in, the Playstation Network got hacked a while back & credit card data may or may not have been stolen. Whereas Nintendo only saves your card number to your device & not to an account in a server. Hence there's less risk afaik.

I'm in the process of selling all of my carts and converting them to digital versions as I'm tired the shelf space and realized I'm not into collecting for my portable systems. I'm very into collecting for home consoles.

I also realized how cool it will be to have all of these titles on my system ...

I'm thinking about doing the same in order to have less and less 3DS games in box format to eventually be able to have my 3DS on-the-go with all of my games in every circumstance.

It is pretty wild to see your 3DS with all of Nintendo's first party awesome games on there ready to play whenever you want plus the good 3rd party ones too.

So far I have Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion, ML Dream Team, ACNL - trying to sell Ocarina, Star Fox, MK7, NSMB2, and a few others. Mario Kart 7 is my most eager one as that is one I'd love to hop in and out of. I recently discovered the Physical to Digital Save Transfer app for the 3DS.

Hmm but I'd be pissed if I wanted to buy the console again and I have no way to get my past purchases. I don't own a ios device anymore but the second I boiught one I could still use my purchases from.

I will agree that Nintendo's way to keep credit card infomation is safer. The thing to realize the others have to service side since they're account systems go to more than one device.

I agree accounts would be great to have and I would LOVE to have that be in the eShop. But, I thought it was worth pointing out something that I didn't realize and most overlook - the fact that you can sell your digital games along with your system. A cool little feature that most forget about.

You can do a 3DS system transfer to migrate to an XL, Limited Edition 3DS, or a new color etc.

they could tie the creditcard/money part of the account boud to the system but the games tranferable to an online account keeping your wallet safe(or at least safer) from hackers and your software safe from console stealing it would be a two way hybrid measure(it would make users angry because it would not be so easy but it would be safer and more efficient)

All very true - would love an account based system, but thought a discussion about what is good about a device based one might be worth having.

I would like those ambassador games. (If I had a way I could buy from off someone and keep the games I have already bought - I might even rebuy the ones I still want).

I like the GBA Warioware quite a lot. (Don't like the GBA Yoshi's Island because it is inferior to the SNES one).

Probably like the GBA Fire Emblem more as well as it doesn't have the pay to win DLC added to it.

Wouldn't this just act as more of a reason for Nintendo to hurry up and finish establishing that account system?

Thats a good point, but I don't think the positives outweight the negatives.Technically being able to sell your games doesn't really make the lack of security protecting your purchases any better. In this day and age anyone serious about digital content is expected to have an account system of some kind in place, not having that hurts nintendo's image in that area.

Besides, why would Nintendo want us to be able to sell our digital games instead of having people buy them straight from them? Right now digital goods are treated as licences, just like an OS or office suite. If anything its an oversight from Nintendo, not an intended benefit.

It is not an oversight. The license is tied to the console, not the person. You can let anyone play with it.

This also works on the other systems with accounts though. If I sold my 360 without wiping my downloaded games, any gamer tag can play those games.
