@Sinister, they have both random & skill based match ups, so if you pick skill based, chances are you'll probably be matched up with other free players, evening the playing field.

With that said, I've been playing Random, and am having a blast even though I have the weakest sub. Like others have said, they generally divide things up pretty good though, even in random, so it's not much (if any) of a problem.

I fail to see how this is pay to win, you pay nothing for the first two levels and multiplayer; it's a demo. Either way, this game is surprisingly awesome.

i am level 20 now
been playing almost all day. love it. still playing with the free version. i have only seen two people with premium submarines so far. what i am worried about is not the premium stuff but the noobs shooting at their own teammates !

the designs you can unlock are pretty cool. this is level 14 or so:

the number on your submarine shows your longest winning record. mine is 4 now.

It is p2w because the best ships can only be accessed by paying money and since you can play against those who have access to these stronger ships.
If paying would only unlock the singleplayer campaign and looks it would not be p2w.
Nintendo does not label the game as a demo and its their first try in the f2p world. And i think they took a wrong turn.

For example: If they would make all the ships unlockable by playig the singleplayer campaign (you unlock the campaign by paying) or in multiplayer (no matter if you payed or not) . Those that paid would have a faster way to get to the good ships through the campaign. That would be the right way to go.

That being said the game is really fun and i could see myself buying the premium version.

i am thinking about getting premium version too. not only because of the other submarines and crewmembers but because of the single player. the next level seem to have different kinds of goals. there could be some nice variety in the campaign

You go to the combat record and look through the list. If you press A on any of the names you can choose to put a star on them.

Yeah, I've been playing off and on all day today (free version), and multiplayer really is a blast. I'm level 4 (or is it 5) now.

I'd probably upgrade to premium right now, if it weren't for the Level-5 sale which I'm going to take advantage of. Will upgrade eventually, though.

One might say you can become quite submersed in the game..

Anybody here actually good at Morse Code?

I'm actually kind of learning it which is cool.. this game is teaching me some pointless information while I have fun. I figure if you put in enough time playing the game you'll eventually memorize it. Well, if you bother chatting that is. There's actually a chat room where you can sit and talk with people in Morse code, I've never used it though.

@GamecubeMan - That was my second round, that stage is amazing.

Well I got through all of single player free stuff now. Guess it is soon time to buy it all, though from what I can tell from sub stats, the paid ones don't seem like they are all that more powerful, most have a flaw or something to hinder them despite the extra power. I wonder about the paid dlc subs though. All I have to do now is get the internet battle crew members, maybe once this storm passes and I can get online with it again.

I still haven't been in the "Fish Tank" map yet, though I have been in the "Hot Springs" map which was kind of fun looking.

Other than that, the other maps I've been to were pretty generic ("Stone Towers" map, "Islands" map, "Caverns map", and another map that has some sort of metal structure in the middle).
