The action looks really fast paced compared to what I remember of Risky's Revenge (haven't played it for about 2 years) so I hope it slows down a bit to be closer to what the other Shantae games have been.

I never played a Shantae game, but they look good.
I just heard that they are all very short.

A good article on what to expect from the game. Significantly, it seems they're dropping the Metroidvania aspect of it somewhat, as there will be a stage select screen(!).

Looks like the Stage Select screen is only while on the Boat so it could be just selecting different ports while still keeping a Metroidvania design

The gameboy color one isn't short.

The dsi Shantae is too short and far too easy.

The GBC one is fine.

Well change is good. Nonetheless, I grew up on Metroidvania titles. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed the new CastleVania LOS: Mirror of Fate primarily because of the fact that it was more Metroidvania than CastleVania Lords of Shadow on XBOX and PS3. I have much admiration and respect for Matt Bozon and the people at WayForward and I am quite sure the new direction that they are aiming to take with Shantae and the Pirates Curse and Shantae Half Genie Hero is an attempt to keep the Shantae franchise fresh, relevant, verdant and innovative and I'm sure that they will do all in their power to keep the core elements of what has made Shantae so timeless and classic in tact instead of tossing it to the wind and selling out.

I'll miss the transformation dances, but the platforming and exploration are the core of the Shantae experience for me, so it'll be fine. It is nice to see WayForward taking a risk with this new entry.

As fun as Risky's Revenge was, it is really Shantae Lite. I didn't get that until I played the GBC original. The original has a meatier campaign and is HARD. Good lord, that game kicked my butt for a while. I loved it.

From the trailer over on Kickstarter.com for "Shantae: Half Genie Hero" it seems that the transformation dance will definitely be back as Shantae transforms into a monkey toward the end of the video. The reason there are no East Indian belly dances in "Pirates Curse" is because (spoiler) Shantae loses her supernatural powers at the end of Risky's Revenge. Apparently, according to rumors she regains her supernatural abilities in "Pirates Curse" toward the end of the game.

Truthfully, I haven't played the original Shantae but "Risky's Revenge" was fairly easily average and I certainly hope that "Pirates Curse" and "Shantae HGH" are lot more difficult than was "Risky's Revenge".

I agree, after being able to play the original on Virtual Console, Risky's Revenge isn't as meaty as the original

Even if Risky's revenge has less content compared to the original, I'd still prefer RR. As good as the GBC game was, The game was too zoomed in and had alot of instances where I'd bump into enemies easily and make leaps of faith. At least I can see where I'm going as to dying from an off screen projectiles. That aside, it was a very impressive game for what it is. RR polished the mechanics and felt great to play, but the limitations of the DSiWare size brought this game down. Let's just hope Pirate's Curse has the best of both worlds. Based on what I'm seeing so far, it looks that way. Can't say the same for the character arts though.

From what I recall in the penultimate issue of Nintendo Power, Shantae will be recovering her magic throughout this long adventure from 30 of Risky's mission, so it can be assumed she will gain her forms back as well, possibly even in dungeons. If not, it would be disappointing, but not a deal-breaker by any means. So long as the map system is improved and the speed improved, I won't have anything to complain about.

Well, maybe the price, if it's the same as Risky's Revenge. Mind you, Shantae: Risky's Revenge is worth the $12, but still.

@Romeo in the GBC shantae if you talk to some of the NPCs they do tell you that Rottytops can't be trusted and that she's basically always causing trouble I guess you can see why now.
