There's tons of games about shooting hundreds upon thousands of human beings, but pointing a virtual gun at a pixelly lion is somehow 'sick'? I don't get it.

To be honest, I only enjoy shooting games where my gun is pointed at a zombie or some evil non-real creature.
If the creature exists in real life, then I feel awkward about it... :|

Anyways, it's just a game, I hope it's good for people who are into that kind of thing... Just don't go around thinking hunting in Africa will be anything like it.

The meat I buy from a supermarket does not come from people out hunting, and if you think farmers hunt their cows to slaughter them then you shouldn't be eating meat - you have no idea how it's produced.

Whilst I don't necessarily think that this game should be banned, as I'm generally against censorship, hunting in general offends me. I can understand farming, and I can understand why a farmer needs to cull rodents. What I can't understand is why some... person... could get a kick out of picking up a gun and going and shooting an animal that is defenceless (and against guns, even bears and sharks are defenceless) .

And it's not just because I've got a bleeding heart. Idiots with guns are the reason so many animals are endangered and so many ecosystems have been ruined. There's always the excuse "oh, there's plenty more, I've just killed one," but I've yet to come across a person that enjoys hunting that has a clue about environmentalism, and therefore has no idea what impact they're really having on the environment. Hunting is not masculine, it's not "cool", it's not "funny." It's not even necessary - meat farms exist for a reason. Hunting is nothing more than cruelty. You want to kill animals go buy a farm.

And as such, any game that exploits this... hobby... is offensive to me. Thankfully they're usually terrible games anyway.

I'll agree it's a shame that so many animals have become endangered (or even extinct) because of greedy individuals who are out to make a buck (such as the illegal ivory trade) or simply for "sport".

However, the act of hunting itself isn't inherently evil, as there are legitimate reasons in some cases. I've never hunted myself (and have never thought of taking it up), but my uncle, as well as one of my best friends are avid hunters. With deer for instance, there are overpopulation issues (especially in urban areas, where safety of motorists is of consern), and that's why there is a "deer hunting season". I haven't looked into the reasonings fully yet (which I may do now), but there are still legitimate reasons for it (also, there is no wasted meat, as it is prepared for consumption).

As for the games themselves, I generally have no problem with them. They're not any more likely to make someone go shoot an elephant, than GTA is to make someone hijack a car. However, if someone is offended by the content, and chooses to not buy the game, that's fine with me.

EDIT:

Looking at the website of the Missouri Department of Conservation, these are the reasons for deer hunting:

  • motorist safety (as deer cause thousands of accidents each year)
  • when the population is too high, there isn't enough food to be found in the wild, so (in search of food) deer can endanger crops & household vegitation.
  • with the purchasing of hunting permits & access to public parks, hunters bring in millions of dollars to the Missouri economy.

They go on to say that the deer are a very much valued member of Missouri wildlife, and list various methods in which they are protected.

[/div]

But not all hunting is like that. In some states they have a wolf hunting season which they say is to protect their livestock but I think it's because people can. The only reason why wolves are attacking livestock is because they have deer hunting seasons, which takes away their food supply but also we are enroaching on their living space by building homes and other stuff. And wolves have nowhere else to go. While I'm not saying that we should stop expanding, I'm just saying that people got to understand that we have brought this on ourselves by destroying their habitat.

Again, unless you know the farm it was slaughtered at, you can't claim this. Despite there being regulations, they aren't ALWAYS followed as strictly as we'd like to believe.

I don't agree with hunting for sport, but A. This is a game, and there are games which feature worse crimes such as murder or terrorism and B. Hunting is often for food.

This is a signature.

While I'm not saying that we should stop expanding, I'm just saying that people got to understand that we have brought this on ourselves by destroying their habitat.

1. I never said that "all hunting is like that". The point I made was that there are both positives and negatives to hunting. It's not as clear as black & white.

2. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, yes, the preying on livestock by wolves is a real issue that needs to be handled (it's not "just because they can"). While I agree that we increase the risk of confrontation when we expand our urban territory, that doesn't mean we should just ignore the wolves that get into urban areas (which could possibly endanger human occupants).

3. Just to get this straight, I'm not saying we should wipe wolves (or deer) off the face of the Earth. What I am saying, is that it's in the best interest for everyone involved that wildlife population is both at a level where the safety of the species is assured, but low enough as to not endanger the livelihood of the people who inhabit the same area. This is the reason I looked to wildlife conservation organisations for facts on the matter (as their main desire, as environmentalist organisations, is to ensure the safety and survival of wildlife).

Here is how I see it:

Shooting games with Deer, Wolves, Fish, Ducks ETC (Basic animals people normally hunt) are fine. Look at Duck hunt!

But games like this that let you kills Hippoes and Tigers and Zebras and other animals that are exotic? No. Just no. What makes it worse are those stupid Headshot bonuses they put in this game, which seems like they WANT you to go on a killing rampage for no reason.

But that definition of exotic is based on where you live. And if anything, it makes more sense for the game to have animals that are less likely to be hunted by the player in real life.

Does anyone actually pay attention to PETA?

Jokes aside, the drastic drop in price is something to look into.

As for the taboo content in the game, I've played worse (GTA), so if this turns out good, I probably won't let that stop me.

If you don't want to buy it, I'm not going to raise a fuss about it. We all have different tolerances when it comes to games, and that's perfectly fine.

Yeah, you're right. They were mad about SM3DL because tanuki suits are mde from tanukis. But nothing happened.

His point is that even in Africa, it's illegal to hunt elephants (due to the ivory trade that has nearly made them extinct in the past), and in his opinion, this game wrongly glorifies that. There are similar issues with lions as well.

While I personally don't care in this context (as it's a game), I respect his opinion, and he's entitled to not purchase the game if he chooses.

Kids.

I just hope someone makes a game that is as fun as duck hunt on the Eshop. The sole reason I don't like this game is honestly due to me watching the whole series of Kimba the White Lion recently, which pretty much showed examples of animal violence and being the lover of animals I am, I'm just sad.

1. Just like war games and the like, hunting games allow people to do something they normally don't do (even if this particular game isn't anything like the real thing. Although, it's arcadey on-rails gameplay is another reason to not be offended by it, IMO, as the gameplay doesn't try to be realistic).

2. Hunting is still quite popular. I live in a city of roughly 70,000 people, and I know quite a bit of hunters (even if I don't hunt myself).

Last year I visited a hunting shop in the US, it was actually quite cool.

There was even a part of the shop with hunting-related plush animals and a shelf filled with hunting video games... Most of them for Wii and DS.
I got myself lovely belt.

I just can't purchase the game. After seeing screenshots of it...I'd feel terrible playing this. You have to kill animals like elephants!? Even if it were just deer in the game I hate hunting in real life, so why would I pay to have a hunting game permanently on my home screen?

Actually, for those of you who are against the game, why don't you comment on the trailer on YouTube? From what I've seen, Teyon has been answering every question.

Just be sure to comment on the one that's posted by Teyon (for some reason, nearly everyone is commenting on the one posted by NintenDaanNC, instead of Teyon).

Seriously, I'm not trying to troll. I figure they will be able to adress your concerns better than anyone else.
