And as such, any game that exploits this... hobby... is offensive to me. Thankfully they're usually terrible games anyway.

I'll agree it's a shame that so many animals have become endangered (or even extinct) because of greedy individuals who are out to make a buck (such as the illegal ivory trade) or simply for "sport".

However, the act of hunting itself isn't inherently evil, as there are legitimate reasons in some cases. I've never hunted myself (and have never thought of taking it up), but my uncle, as well as one of my best friends are avid hunters. With deer for instance, there are overpopulation issues (especially in urban areas, where safety of motorists is of consern), and that's why there is a "deer hunting season". I haven't looked into the reasonings fully yet (which I may do now), but there are still legitimate reasons for it (also, there is no wasted meat, as it is prepared for consumption).

As for the games themselves, I generally have no problem with them. They're not any more likely to make someone go shoot an elephant, than GTA is to make someone hijack a car. However, if someone is offended by the content, and chooses to not buy the game, that's fine with me.

Looking at the website of the Missouri Department of Conservation, these are the reasons for deer hunting:

• motorist safety (as deer cause thousands of accidents each year)
• when the population is too high, there isn't enough food to be found in the wild, so (in search of food) deer can endanger crops & household vegitation.
• with the purchasing of hunting permits & access to public parks, hunters bring in millions of dollars to the Missouri economy.

They go on to say that the deer are a very much valued member of Missouri wildlife, and list various methods in which they are protected.

But not all hunting is like that. In some states they have a wolf hunting season which they say is to protect their livestock but I think it's because people can. The only reason why wolves are attacking livestock is because they have deer hunting seasons, which takes away their food supply but also we are enroaching on their living space by building homes and other stuff. And wolves have nowhere else to go. While I'm not saying that we should stop expanding, I'm just saying that people got to understand that we have brought this on ourselves by destroying their habitat.

But that definition of exotic is based on where you live. And if anything, it makes more sense for the game to have animals that are less likely to be hunted by the player in real life.
