Why is this in the eShop forum? On Nintendo's website, it's listed as a retail game (unless it's been moved to eShop, or is releasing on both physical & digital fronts).

Also, why is it a "sick idea"? Hunting games have been around for years, and I don't see what this does differently. Who knows, it may end up being a decent shooting gallery game for all we know.

I think Teyon (the developer) has this game listed as "eShop download" themselves.

I dislike this kind of game though. Poor virtual animals.

I don't mind games with Deer in them, but having all sorts of wild Animals like Hippos in a hunting game, as well as headshot bonuses? That is just a sick idea. Whoever developed this game should be ashamed. I think this should have been banned, like that bad "Binding of Issac" game was.

Parts of the game may be in bad taste, but it's a tad harsh to compare it to tBoI.

Also, do we know how the confrontations are presented in the game? Are you purposefully going after lions & elephants, or is the main goal to hunt animals like antelope (which I see as equivalent to deer), and you only confront lions (ect.) in self defence like "boss" encounters?

Again, parts of it may be a little controversial I agree, but hunting games (even with very similar African themes) have been around for a long time, and haven't affected the hunting of these kinds of animals, so I don't think this'll be any different.

Well, according to some comments on Neogaf's Nintendo Download thread and the youtube trailer, People seem to think the same thoughts I do. I don't think this is your standard game.

There's tons of games about shooting hundreds upon thousands of human beings, but pointing a virtual gun at a pixelly lion is somehow 'sick'? I don't get it.

I was about to point this out.

And @Alien_Mosky no not necessarily. I know Grand Theft Auto (when played the way most people do AKA incorrectly) allows you to kill endless amounts of civilians, and everyone should remember the "No Russian" mission from MW2 (lolCraptivision).

And unless you're a vegetarian (which I am not), you shouldn't be eating meat unless you know the way it was slaughtered.

The game was a $30 retail release that came out last December (according to IGN), so if it can rise above it's controversial content, hopefully there will be enough content to justify $4.

Wal-Mart and KMart both refer to it as a title to pre-order, so I don't think they're correct on this. The fact that there are 0 reviews for it also is a good sign.

^Actually, for an eShop game, it doesn't look bad at all (now that I've seen the trailer).

Graphically speaking, it looks to be one of the better games on eShop (due to the fact it was originally supposed to be retail).

As Undead_Terror said, it has quite a bit of levels (which seem to have various environments), 30 weapons, and a ton of achievements.

It's not a mere shooting gallery, either. Most of what was showcased in the trailer was on-rails (riding in a Jeep, hunting antelope, birds, ect.), but there also appeared to be more action oriented levels in which more violent creatures (lions, crocodiles, cheetahs, ect.) are charging at you, and you have to fend them off.

For only $4, this looks like it could be a good purchase. (hunting elephants may be a little taboo, but hey, it's a game, so no foul).

Actually (according to Teyon's website), it has 35 missions! 16 sounded good enough for the price, but with 35 the game is looking more like a purchase.

Seriously, this game will really have to screw something up to not be worth the price. I know a little bit of it may be in bad taste, but with all that's being offered, I can easily overlook that.

And unless you're a vegetarian (which I am not), you shouldn't be eating meat unless you know the way it was slaughtered.

The meat I buy from a supermarket does not come from people out hunting, and if you think farmers hunt their cows to slaughter them then you shouldn't be eating meat - you have no idea how it's produced.

Whilst I don't necessarily think that this game should be banned, as I'm generally against censorship, hunting in general offends me. I can understand farming, and I can understand why a farmer needs to cull rodents. What I can't understand is why some... person... could get a kick out of picking up a gun and going and shooting an animal that is defenceless (and against guns, even bears and sharks are defenceless) .

And it's not just because I've got a bleeding heart. Idiots with guns are the reason so many animals are endangered and so many ecosystems have been ruined. There's always the excuse "oh, there's plenty more, I've just killed one," but I've yet to come across a person that enjoys hunting that has a clue about environmentalism, and therefore has no idea what impact they're really having on the environment. Hunting is not masculine, it's not "cool", it's not "funny." It's not even necessary - meat farms exist for a reason. Hunting is nothing more than cruelty. You want to kill animals go buy a farm.

And as such, any game that exploits this... hobby... is offensive to me. Thankfully they're usually terrible games anyway.

I'll agree it's a shame that so many animals have become endangered (or even extinct) because of greedy individuals who are out to make a buck (such as the illegal ivory trade) or simply for "sport".

However, the act of hunting itself isn't inherently evil, as there are legitimate reasons in some cases. I've never hunted myself (and have never thought of taking it up), but my uncle, as well as one of my best friends are avid hunters. With deer for instance, there are overpopulation issues (especially in urban areas, where safety of motorists is of consern), and that's why there is a "deer hunting season". I haven't looked into the reasonings fully yet (which I may do now), but there are still legitimate reasons for it (also, there is no wasted meat, as it is prepared for consumption).

As for the games themselves, I generally have no problem with them. They're not any more likely to make someone go shoot an elephant, than GTA is to make someone hijack a car. However, if someone is offended by the content, and chooses to not buy the game, that's fine with me.

EDIT:

Looking at the website of the Missouri Department of Conservation, these are the reasons for deer hunting:

  • motorist safety (as deer cause thousands of accidents each year)
  • when the population is too high, there isn't enough food to be found in the wild, so (in search of food) deer can endanger crops & household vegitation.
  • with the purchasing of hunting permits & access to public parks, hunters bring in millions of dollars to the Missouri economy.

They go on to say that the deer are a very much valued member of Missouri wildlife, and list various methods in which they are protected.
