The main levels are a piece of cake. Really! Just memorize the patterns and get that long-range gun.

Currently beat CGA level 1-1 and 2-1. And they had A LOT of spikes!

So, in terms of cheap tricks, are the new levels more thought out than the later parts of the main game?

The leaps of faith & offscreen enemy attacks employed during the latter part of the main game kinda put me off. Did they figure out the key to fair difficulty, or do they just ramp up the cheap tricks?

I've only beaten one CGA level so far...the first one. They're brutal! Aaaaand they do seem kinda cheap I have to say, RR529.

I'm not complaining, but I think I would have preferred fun layouts with challenging enemy placement to pixel-perfect instant-death gauntlets!

Already beat all of them.

?SPOILER?

The final screen you get hints towards a sequel, which Renegade Kid already hinted at as well, mind you.

Totally agreed. I've only gotten through 3 of them thus far; the pixel-perfect spike-avoiding can be pretty cheap/annoying.

Beat the DLC in about 2 1/2 hours (in five sittings). Yes, it's a bit of trial of error but the slowish pace of the game makes it manageable. Didn't make it go away from my top 5 of eShop games. :)

PS: Corbs made these?

@ziLToiD - You mean his name in the credits? Indie devs tend to put the names of people that have given them good press in their "Special Thanks" section of game credits; I know Corbie's in the credits of Cave Story (DSiWare), Shantae: Risky's Revenge, VVVVVV (eShop), Bomb Monkey, and probably a few more I can't think of off the top of my head.

Exactly.

so, how do you play as grannie? i've managed to get into one or two levels, but i think you need to be grannie in order to beat them. i've tried everything i can think of, but no luck :/

which is better? to be born a hero, or to be born evil and overcome that nature?

SLIGHT SPOILER:

Collect all the tokens in all of the levels. (And beat them.) Once you do that you can switch to Grannie from the title screen by pressing L.

Yeah, I saw those credits after my previous post. Who knows? He may have said something and/or inspired RKid to do the CGA levels, so it would only be fair for him to get more credit.

On a different note: For those of you having trouble with the CGA levels, on downward-pointing spikes, there's a few pixels of leeway where if Grannie makes contact with the tip he won't automatically die. That and trial-and-error attempts to pick off Mudds at long distances helped me breeze through a lot of the later CGA levels.

Exactly.

Month long bump to state an opinion. I have loads of respect for Renegade Kid and enjoyed this game (though I preferred Moon), but these levels are a seriously mixed bag IMO.

Main problem is the abundance of cheap tricks. I thought Mutant Mudds before DLC was pretty easy to be honest. A few cheap tricks here and there, but for the most part some very good level design. Here, every few seconds you're making a leap of faith, you have to glide into off-screen enemies, or you end up boosting and get killed by off-screen spikes.

I still have loads of respect for Renegade Kid since it's free DLC, something most cash-loaded devs/publishers don't do. Just wanted to share my opinion.

Corbie actually designed all those CGA levels, btw. Maybe that's why they're so cheap. :D

Oh! New levels? Good! I was hoping we would get some before the sequel, Mutant Mudds is my favorite download game(just better than Denpa Men for me). :) It's also promising that they apparently teased the next game because it basically solidifies the 2013 date for 2 that we heard.

I'd like to say that I recommend my my Backloggery, but I haven't updated it in a long time!
