I was stupidly disappointed in the first level, thinking "They actually went for this 2.5D crap? Why?"

Then I reached the bonus stage and was happy again.

I'm worried about how long the game will be though. It seems like it's only 15 levels based off of that picture screen, which is the same length as the original (which was too short for a game of this quality). I was hoping there would be a load of content like AoB: Touch.

I also got the black screen the first time I Game Over'd against the first boss, but I got a couple more game overs against him before beating him and each time it took me to the "Game Over" screen.

I'm on the third world now and I'm enjoying the game, but I find that I like the 3D levels a lot more than the 2D levels. I wish they had made the entire game 3D!

Yeah even if you find everything is seems like it can be beat in about 5hours. I beat the first boss and I don't even think I played an hour yet!

I'm actually enjoying the 2D levels more. The 3D ones feel... sparse? I'm not sure how to put it. I guess it's impressive for a download title to be going for full 3D at 60fps, but a lot of the time I feel like I'm just making simple jumps and not doing that much.

The visuals, presentation and frame rate all seem impressive for a WiiWare title, but the game play looks uninspired. I'm curious weather i should just say "fudge it" and download it. But I know it's just going to offer a run of the mill generic platforming experience, something to tide you over until a REAL retail platformer paves the way. :P Besides, i'm kind of put off by the lead character....AKA, Zack Efron with a rocket strapped to his back.

@MERG Yeah, the camera controls seem a little obtuse. Generally they will only move if it means they don't clip into a block, and since this game has a lot of corridors that's pretty much bound to happen all the time :/

@CountWavula I'm about halfway through and I can attest you'd probably hate this game for the same reason that you hated Gunman Clive :p

haha, i guess I'll just avoid like the noid! :P I just don't see the point in playing it if it's just more of the same regurgitated unoriginal stale platforming goop that i've already seen dozens & dozens of times throughout the span of my radical gaming days of Surfer goomba goolay. :* Seriously, i look at these shinen games and they look like polished table scraps of already established superior original franchises.....They clearly don't have a creative mind working at their little studio in copy cat land. ;) Look at their lame F-Zero(FAST racing league) & Stardust HD(Nano Assault Neo) clones....This studio is the definition of overrated. Their games excel in polish and play well, but that's where it ends.

Why would you want to play something that's already been done to death Vs the real thing that's 10x better with memorable characters, worlds, music you name it. I guess if you're THAT bored and you have nothing else amazing to play. :P

While I will say this game is very bland, Fast racing on the Wii had the interesting mechanic of switching colors to use certain element of the track. and the Nano series far precedes Stardust... certainly though, it is a shmup which is an oooold genre.

But are there ANY memorable characters that stand out? It's like they're stealing ideas from popular franchises that have tons of character, yet stripping that completely away. It's like buying a very cheap imitation/knock off action figure at a loony store.....Heck even that would be giving them a compliment.

They focus too much on the presentation, visuals and frame rate. Of course that's all very important, but any sense of originality or imagination is sadly an afterthought....Actuallly, it's not EVEN a thought, it doesn't exist at Shinen.lol

Yeesh, whatever happened to the developers of LostWinds? That was one of the greatest wiiware experience i've ever had. that's how you make a creative(and from a hardware perspective) platformer, even the lead character stands out and is worthy of starring in his very own Pixar flick. ;)

While I think the first Fast and Jett Rocket II are pretty Bland, I think their other games like the minigolf and Nano Assault are really good. Its pretty basic indie platformer. I give the game a ton of leeway since 3D platformers aren't the biggest genre we see alot of. My biggest problem with the game is the jump is mapped to the A button instead of the B button. The jump attack feel weird as well, in game it works like a Mario jump attack but the charcater's movement and momentum kind of call for a sonic style homing attack. I also hate how the charcter loses momentum after doing the jump attack.

I agree with the comments about the game feeling sparse. There are a couple of places which need enemies or something to interact with.

Memorable characters are not necessarily an indication of creativity. I was arguing that for Fast, they tried using a creative mechanic. No, they are not the most wildly creative of the bunch. But that isn't to say they don't try.

But who cares anyway. I enjoy playing some of their games, you enjoy playing none, surely some out there enjoys every single one. Arguing about videogames is boring.

And unfortunately the Lostwinds dev, last I recall, made those kinectimal games for the 360 where you pet the air and the animal on screen reacts. I think their talent is being squandered there...

Nano Assault was wonderful, the Art of Balance games were great and the minigolf game was terrible. I don't believe Shin'en go out to copy game ideas, but they do stick to the tried-and-true methods. It's hard to blame them for doing so though, since they're a pretty small studio. Their games all look fantastic though and they have this shiny-metal theme goin' on. I wouldn't say they're experiences which stay with you forever, but they're good fun when you need it.

I've always loved the way Shin'en games look, but agree that they need a better designer. A great designer to go w/the gorgeous visuals and they'd be one of the best developers anywhere.

I like Shi'en stuff because it is technically good and not stupidly easy.

(3D Land / NSMB2 don't even have the right framerate).

3D Land would be better than this if it was 60fps but it is no fun to play fast because of technical issues. I never like to do anything other than play at max speed - don't care about characters or story in anything other than JRPG's (And I am not even sure I like those that much anymore - New ones are like a bad movie as opposed to a really good novel)

As long as it's not dipping below 30fps like Ocarina of time on the N64. ;) It's a shame though that the power sucking stereoscopic 3D effect drains 2x the power, which is why we're rarely seeing games running in 60, A link between worlds is the exception of the few(Super Monkey Ball 3D, Jet Rocket II ect). Props to NIntendo for achieving such a feat.. Still, considering 3Dlands simple visuals(Much more so than lets say Luigi's Mansion 2) you'd think they would of got it running in 60, ah well. Either way, it's a fantastic game. :P
