There were ports between DSiWare and the iOS over the past few years. They both got games like Zenonia, Cut the Rope, Hero of Sparta, blah blah blah. But why haven't we seen more ports from iOS to 3DS?

Here's what I'd like:

  • Modern Combat / N.O.V.A. trilogy (stylus and Circle Pad Pro support)
  • World of Goo
  • Chaos Rings I / II
  • Peggle
  • Infinity Blade Trilogy (I, II, Dungeons)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 / CD
  • Dead Space
  • Mass Effect: Infiltrator
  • NBA Jam

If at least half of these made the eShop, it would be awesome. Let's hope Gameloft supports the eShop as much as Renegade Kid does so this list wouldn't all be in vain. :)

Games I'm getting: None

Favorite Games: Super Metroid (SNES) / Mother 2 (Super Famicom) / Pokémon LeafGreen (GBA) / RuneScape (PC)
Playing: Pokémon X / Y (3DS) / Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

Nothing interesting happens.

I actually wouldn't mind having the NOVA trilogy coming to the eshop.
I definitely want Sonic 4 (both episodes merged into one) as well.

I'd love for Gameloft to bring over a NOVA or MC game, yeah. Mass Effect Infiltrator was pretty awful though (not much chance of that or Dead Space happening anyway), and Chaos Rings 1 bored me to tears.

I made Kid Tripp! PocketGamer gave it a 9 out of 10! You should totally buy it now!

Basically, if they ported over a quarter of the iOS's best games, then the eShop would be awesome with revamped controls.

the Chaos Rings trilogy definately (1, Ω, an 2)! Only series on iOS worth playing, IMO.

I guess the MC and N.O.V.A. games couldn't hurt either (although I found the first N.O.V.A. to be very mediocre).

Sonic 4 ep II and World of Goo would be fine as well, but I really wouldn't see them as iOS ports.

Nothing like Angry Birds or Jetpack Joyride though (and yes, I know Angry Birds 3D is said to be in the works, unfortunately...).

Let's have iMech on the eShop. I'd like some online mech battles. Also, GeoDefense would scratch that itch for top-down tower defense games.

There's a third Chaos Rings game? Hmm...

Anyway, I only found the Modern Combat / N.O.V.A. to be mediocre because of mediocre controls, Modern Combat especially. With the Circle Pad Pro (or even better, the stylus... thank you, Kid Icarus: Uprising!), aiming and moving around will finally feel natural.

The only question is, can the 3DS handle these games? Let alone in glorious 3D?

Wait a minute. Is the entirety of the iOS's processing power completely dedicated to the games? I don't think so: it may need additional power to take in calls, text messages, and others. The 3DS mostly doesn't have that same problem (SpotPass and StreetPass), so more power can be dedicated to the game itself. Plus, the 3DS runs at a lower resolution than iOS devices, so power usage won't be used as much as on iOS devices.

Well I could be wrong (don't know much about tech)

Also it would be nice to see some of these games, but I'm just worried that developers don't want to bother either because of financial reasons or just because they're too lazy to port because odds are they would have to change the controls to a lot of these games because the 3DS screen isn't multi-touch.

Chaos Rings Ω (pronounced omega) came out before CR2, and is a prequel to CR1 (I believe it follows Olgar's victory from the previous competition).

I found N.O.V.A. to be mediocre not just because of the controls (although they were a factor), but because it had a 10 year old design. Run through same-y hallways, kill a bunch of enemies in a room (usually spawning from portals, how original), go through same-y looking hallway, rinse, wash, repeat.

Anyone heard of Guardian Saga? It's a retro-inspired iOS RPG much like the early Dragon Quest games. It's a great RPG I got for free when it was initially released, but now it retails for like $2.99, which is fair enough. Who else has heard about this game? I'd love to see the developers port this over.

Changing controls will be easy. Since most games out there really just use a virtual stick and a few buttons, porting over the controls would be easy. But as a side note, if they port over Infinity Blade I / II, then the stylus control will make everything too easy, with the ease of swiping back and forth.

Lack of originality is a part of Gameloft. Until Gameloft gets some original ideas (N.O.V.A. 3 looks to change to that), we'll continue to see 'homages' to other classic franchises. N.O.V.A. 3 looks to blend Halo with Crysis (instead of Dead Space), and it stands as the best looking game on iOS.

We wouldn't know just yet. We'll just have to wait and see. I see where you're coming from, though, as 3D games on DS looked like fetus mucus.

Remember, the 3DS was BUILT for gaming. iOS products, not so much. They focus so much on multitasking and other functionality that some power in iOS devices aren't used for gaming. The 3DS does not (almost, thanks to some multitasking, StreetPass, and SpotPass) have that same problem, and the entire system can be optimized to play some N.O.V.A. and Modern Combat.

Of course, if it can't be done, then forget it. I'd rather have an FPS from Renegade Kid, built up from the ground up for the 3DS.
