eshop is probably better due to lack of competition comapred to going on the play/app store. A quality game has an easier chance to shine on the shop than it does on the other stores where it can be the 100th game releasing that week.

In terms of price vs quality Apple wins. (When they get ios7 out so they have an official controller it will be a no brainer).

It has a lot of the good Genesis / Dreamcast / Neo Geo stuff.

A significant number of the best Golden Age Square RPG's

Plus some other stuff that is hard to find underneath all the junk and some really great indie stuff.

Super Hexagon is better than VVVVV (Same original developer).

Don't think the eshop is that high quality. (Compared to the best of SNES/Genesis/Neo Geo/GBA - I would have thought the high level libraries and extra power should be enough to come up with things at least that quality but alas it is not).

Kokuga / Nano Assault EX are good but they were both Retail releases in JP / USA respectively.

(Better selection and better price when it comes to virtual console on ios).

I don't have an ipad and do have a 3DS XL if that matters. (In fact I dislike pretty much everything else about ios).

Along with all the Cave shmups.

(With a controller - Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio will be better than any of the none retail 3DS stuff but cost maybe slightly more than Gunman Clive RRP (Or the same if you wait until there is an offer).

Plus the ipad being 4:3 will be great for vertically oriented games like Raiden Legacy. (Far less hassle than turning a TV on its side for TATE mode with a console).

Eshop still has some issues like charging in dollars and showing the prices in reais for "Brazilian" Eshop I used a credit card to add R$40 to my 3DS and then the bill came $40 that's a little more than twice!!! if nintendo fixes this problem I'll start using the Eshop again before that I'll stay away from digital download games.
so I think in my country both are bad. and I can't really say anything about other countries....

looking forward to Codename S.T.E.A.M.

There is one game that comes into play when we think about the app store, everyone. There is one game everyone forgot about that made the app store amazing.
Minecraft Pocket Edition
A fun little portable version of Minecraft for those who have a phone with a decent charge, this game, and spare time.
There's even multiplayer. So app store.

That one game for your entire vote? That "Minecraft" version is extremely difficult to use since all of the controls are on the screen. It's difficult to reach a corner to do something like placing a block when you're accidentally moving left or right instead. It's frustrating. Also, it's very outdated compared to the PC Version. It doesn't support Texture Packs, Maps, or Mods. I played it on my friend's Google Nexus but I was too frustrating. I don't like it, and it would be a million times better if there were buttons or keys like XBox or PC version, even though I like the PC Version the best.

To my opinion, Minecraft would be better on the 3DS or Wii U because of the many buttons like the XBox, only with a touch pad for the Wii U and the touch screen for the 3DS. You wouldn't have to use it every two seconds like the Pocket Edition, but would be great for stuff such as GUI's for your inventory, chest, crafting table, and furnace. I hate how the GUI's are in the XBox version, it's like the Sega CD games where nearly every game forces you to move a "cursor" with a gamepad/analog stick!!

Most of those Sega games and Minecraft were originally designed for the Xperia Play (I have one think Sony deliberately stopped supporting it due to the Vita).

They work really well on it.

The newer ones don't run very well on the Xperia Play which is annoying, (Even stuff like the Metal Slug games that are theoretically designed for it).

An otg cable and a 360 pad works well for Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi (On a newer tablet).

They work really well on it.

Most of the Sega games on Android now support stuff like the MOGA controller. (Because of that I expect if Apple ever releases an official one then Sega will be one of the first to support it).

Most of the dotemu stuff is good if you have hardware that allows it to run well and a good controller same with Sega (On Android). Some stuff is utter garbage on Android (All of the Cave shmup ports / ikaruga / some of the Square Enix stuff has awful DRM on Android - I know Chrono Trigger does but I have the DS version so it is less of a problem).

iOS ports are likely to be better though. (Waste of time without decent controls but they are going to fix that).

(Nintendo must actively be against the really high quality classic stuff being on the 3DS eshop to help the stuff that is similar to the best phone / tablet games in terms of quality sell).

With the exception of World of Goo (which is better on Wiiware), and the endless runners and simpleton driving apps, which I grew tired of, oh, and Monkey Island 2, I find the entire app/android store to be completely crap, and have lost interest a long time ago. No comparison.

Play store & app store? As in iphone games?

I can't tell you how it compares never owned an iphone. I had a dsi & compared to the dsi shop the 3ds e-shop look's better than that times 10. :D

I love how I can download for the majority most retail games as opposed to going into Gamestop to buy the cartridges of the same games. :D

Happy Gaming! (^_^)

Until eShop gets some of this sampling of boardgame adaptations, the app store wins everything ever for me. These would be nice on 3DS.

App Store owns everything. I'm always a big fan of Nintendo's menus, though. The transfer of information from Wii to Wii U via Pikmin was one of the coolest things.

Settlers and Carcassonne would be awesome. Love those games.

Is this a joke? Nintendo first party titles alone make it a better selection of games. Quality is what makes the 3DS special - gave up on iOS because the games lacked that delight and fun that I found when I bought my 3DS and Wii U.
