Please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks this game is poorly designed?

The normal levels (bar world 7 and beyond) are soooo easy to get a "great" on, some levels you can get hit like a bajillion times and the games like EH PERFECT :D!!!.. but then the bosses come and if you mess up ONCE, ha, suck it, "Good". Even if you don't care about getting a good ranking.. the bosses are soo much harder than the normal levels. Sure they aren't THAT hard, but compared to the 7 other levels you just beat, yea, they kinda are. Only in world 7 (the final world) did levels give me trouble on getting a great ranking, which is to be expected as it's the final world, other than that i can count maybe three times I died or didn't get enough notes on a standard level.

This is why I don't like the game, it doesn't seem thought through, I mean besides the whole "not having a proper ranking system", the game just feels... indie. It doesn't have that level of polish you'd expect from gamefreak & a $20 title.. just a shame really, as it would be one of the music games on the 3DS... :/ The secondary characters hardly get used, and imo they are the most fun. Every Time the game does something different it immediately takes it away..

To those who have played the demo and turned off by the difficulty of it, They thought it was a good idea to include the first level of the game, the second boss & a world 3 pokemon level.. Good choices... Anyone else feel the same way as me? I really want to like the game, it's just annoying more than fun.

Haven't had any problems thus far. But the bosses are more of a pattern recognition kind of deal rather than 'follow the rhythm' like the normal levels. If you ignore your sense of music and just memorize the pattern you should be able to beat most of them on the first try. I've only had re-played one boss.

Don't know about the score system. I want to beat the game before I try to get Great on every level. Loving the game thus far :D

I've already beat the game & half of the 2x levels. It's not more of a "ermugurd dis is 2 hard 4 meeee!!! :( :(" but just the game is very off to me.

Haven't noticed that. But then again, I'm just halfway through. Maybe it'll get 'worse' later on?

I agree the difficulty is all over the place. Its a shame I almost didn't purchase the full game because of the demo but I did and its no better.
Hopefully they will patch the game.

Badly designed difficulty throughout a game really just ruins it. It's most of the reason why I quit The Denpa Men. I know it's an RPG and as such its considerably harder to create a good difficulty curve throughout but by the time I was at the Fire Levels it was just ridiculous.

I make Pixel Art on occasion.

Good to see I'm not the only one. I actually just recorded an 18 minute rant on why the game is poorly designed, you bet I have nothing better to do :p
And yea, I was stupid enough to beat the game, and I'm still playing it.. hoping it gets better..

Then I suppose you hate 99% of RPGs. They all do this :P

Well after around 2 hours of attempts, I officially give up perfecting the final boss. I can constantly get to the last attack without a hit, but then the game just wants you to mash a, and well I can't do that apparently. It's such a shame this game is just.. so poop. I guess Gamefreak just suck at downloadable titles, let's hope they redeem themselves with X/Y and presumably Z.

They nailed the Boss battles with the whole can't take a hit thing.
My only complaint is that the bar for a great should definitely be a lot higher in the normal stages.
Fun game, but no challenge (at least so far).
Still, rather play this thank a Pokemon RPG nonetheless.

It's difficult to create a smooth difficulty curve for a Rhythm game, since some people are bound to find certain patterns easier than others. I can't think of a single one which hasn't gotten complaints for having a strange progression. And before ragging on Game Freak, just consider - it's their first rhythm game.

also, I guess I probably should actually play the game before making judgement calls :(

to sum up my thoughts on the game...
If you care about 100%ing everything and becoming a HarmoKnight yourself investing hours and hours into the game.... Don't get it. There's no reward for being perfect, or anything like that. I would recommend Rhythm Theif or Theatrhythm.

If you just want to play the game and are fine with any passing rank.. go ahead and buy this. You may find some of the later levels too challenging but otherwise you will probably enjoy it.

Unfortunately I fall in the first group, hence why I don't like the game as there's no reward for being "perfect" hell a great rank ranges from 50 - 90 at times.. Oh well, back to SSS ranking Theatrhythm :D

Theatrhythm is definitely the best rhythm game on the 3DS... took me quite a while to get SSS on every song on every difficulty.
HarmoKnight's definitely good fun though... I've been playing it in small doses (Monster Hunter has taken over my life so not much time for anything else) and I've been enjoying it.

We need a 3DS Rhythm Heaven game...
I was getting so close to getting all the perfects on the Wii game at EB Games before they had to replace it with Just Dance 4. :(

See the thing with the 3ds is that all the gimmicks are like the DS.. so WarioWare & Rhythm Heaven kinda don't have anything to go off anymore. Specially that you held Rhythm heaven like a book, that wouldn't work with 3d.. D:

Hopefully Nintendo do something about it, but then again DiY had some of the worst games of the series.. so :(

The whole can't hold it sideways might complicate things a bit when it comes to them making a Rhythm Heaven game unfortunately... personally I wish they'd just do it anyway... screw the 3D. :P

Personally I didn't really have a problem with difficulty, but then I find I do pretty well in pretty much every rhythm game I play. It might just be that I find beats easier to pick up? I didn't have a problem at all with getting 'great' for the final boss or any of the levels prior in that world so that might be an indicator.

I don't play 3DS games in 3D.. :P Mainly because I can't record in 3D..

and yea, I just suck at the final part of the final boss, which then annoyed me constantly doing the other parts.

The only songs I had a bit of a problem with were the 'clock tower' ones that sped up and slowed down, but after a few times I picked it up.

Cool statistic there bro.
No, I love playing RPG's. Most of the ones I play manage to design it better than The Denpa Men.
Just a note: Finding some enemies difficult in an RPG doesn't mean the difficulty curve is bad - that's the only reason I can think of as to why you'd think its always the case.

Harmoknight does have a rather intense difficulty curve, but you've actually got it wrong. It's more like this:
Before you start using charge attacks: Every level is super easy.
Once you discover charge attacks: Every level is equally super hard.

The only levels that are really harder than the rest are the Baroque ones, which are the only levels that I would actually call "unfair", because they throw so many unexpected obstacles at you. I mean, there's one level that's literally based around jumps you see hardly one note in advance. And missing a jump is brutally unfair when it means instant death.

But... if you just practice and learn, you'll get the hang of the harder rhythms. The rock and metal ones, for example, are based around memorizing patterns. And if you focus, you'll find that even the fastest parts still hold a predictable rhythm (unlike, say, Theatrhythm, which requires absurdly perfectly handiwork with a stylus when things get dicey).

Rhythm Thief is still the best, though.
