Finished the first boss of the sh'mup segments. This game reaches Contra levels of difficulty if you plan to get everything out from a level seriously, I think I spent a huge chunk of my time to 5 star a level in the special courses. This game has been great so far though I have some qualms thus far. First off, in terms of presentation (Art style, music, even UI), everything about it just seems average. They do the job, but in the end they leave little impact to the player. Now for the sh'mup stages, Even if they are fun in their own right, I just feel that they deviate from the actual experience rather than giving a breather.

Other than that, The game still manages to justify the price based on its mechanics alone. I was quite fond of screen switching navigation more so than the run'n gun elements. Considering I played only half the game, I'd say this may take at least 4 hours to beat, but even more hours to fish everything out. Based on my play through so far, this game feels like a strong seven.

On another note, I've now got zero interest in this game. :p

If I do get another points card for it I'll get it ASAP. I'm very interested in how it apparently does everything right and yet is only "good".

It's mostly because the game, although special, just isn't on the same level as other platformers. If I had to choose between this and Mega Man 2, Shantae: Risky's Revenge or Super Meat Boy, I'd easily choose the latter each time. Think of it like judging Bomberman Blast. There aren't any problems with it, but it's not incredible.

Still, it's very much a game worth buying. I wouldn't say anyone should feel like they need to get it right away, but if you have an itch for a unique, challenging platformer, you can't go wrong with it.

It does everything right, but just the same it doesn't really have a 'soul' (ba-dum-tish!). It's presentation, while certainly good, just doesn't feel too inspired.

This game gets haaaard on those auto scroll platform levels!

I hate those. I must have died 30 times on the last one, as a low estimate. It could have been 50. My entity number finally reached 100 due to it!

Well I kinda thought that would be true. But I love how people are like "this game is perfect and you need to buy it now!!!!!!.....8/10"

So demo is out, awesome! I downloaded it and played it today. I got to say this game..is... Frustrating. I usually don't have a problem with difficulty, I welcome it, but here... It's more annoying than hard. Keeping track of two screens is way harder than I thought it'd be. The game focuses way more on the platforming than balancing out action and platforming in the demo. I know it'd be hard to do that but yeah. I'm gonna play the demo more but right now I think I'll just get Liberation Maiden instead.

Played the demo.

The Good: there are 4 levels in the demo, it looks clean graphically (meaning there's nothing confusing), the gameplay is fun & challenging (even if it takes a bit to get used to).

The Bad: while it is fun, there was absolutely nothing about it that made me think "OMG, I need this now!" (in other words, I'll be content sticking with Mega Man: Dr Wily's Revenge, for my run 'n' gun platforming needs). The theme, character, ect, are very generic sci-fi stuff, that don't stand out in any way.

@Retro_on_theGo, yeah, go ahead and DL Liberation Maiden, if you're choosing between the two. I enjoyed the gameplay in that one much more, it undeniably has more character & a better soundtrack, and you'll be saving a few bucks in the process.

BTW, I only died twice in the FS demo (once each in stage 3 & stage 4).

My mini-review (133/155 Stars, 15:43 Playtime)

What I loved in my journey to 5-starring every stage is that each stage I attempted started with "Woah! I am never going to be able to do this". Then by memorizing the stage/enemy layout and getting creative, I was able to find the safest and fastest way to getting around it. So there I was, 30-60min later, achieving the 5-stars. To me, that is brilliant game design. The game is very well suited for short play-sessions, which leave you with a sense of accomplishment. Bugs, glitches (encountered a couple) and sluggish animations aside, this game gets a 5/5 from me!

So, I like this game a lot and got it the day it came out. I like difficult games and have beaten some crackers, but this has me scratching my head, cursing, and generally falling into a bad mood.

It's all because of one level and one jump, which I CAN'T DO. I even left the game for weeks in case I was having a weird mental block, but tried it yesterday and still can't get it.

It's the Alienation level (the 11th in the game), and after climbing through a big area there's a room with snow and wind on the top screen and not on the bottom. There's a screen length jump that I can't hit, and it's irritating me — if anyone has beaten this and knows of the jump I'm talking about, you could be my new best friend and tell me the trick to making it.

As someone who adores platformers and has conquered games that, in theory, have much tougher jumps, I'm desperate to get past it and finish the damn game!

I like it though, worth a download :)

is this the part after the climbing up the first ladder? if so, try to press this button in chronological order:

just played through the demo we got in europe today.
game is amazing. tough but fun. i will defintly get this game when it will be reduced in price.

some secrets are very hard to get. and i have no idea how to finish the levels in par-time xD

btw the demo has 4 levels and everybody should try this game.
too bad it doesnt use 3D though it would look weird when one screen has 3D and the other screen doesnt have 3D.

I got the demo today too and i can say it's a brilliant platformer! Switching between the two screens messes with your head. 0.0
Up there with gunman clive. Not sure if I can afford £7.20 for it though :(, so much other stuff coming out.

Bought it a few days after it released.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Tough-as-nails, but perfectly fair
  • Dual-screen gameplay is seamless
  • Tons of reply value
  • Occasional changes in gameplay keep it feeling fresh
  • Very user-friendly controls

WHAT I DON'T LIKE

  • To get all stars for a level you pretty much have to do a perfect run
  • Visually the game is bland. Generic looking hero, generic looking villains, the whole thing looks very generic

It's definitely worth the purchase.
