Hey guys, I'm sure some of you are familiar with me and my previous post regarding the NA eShop. Well, I'm back again hoping to find a solution to some misunderstandings...
I curently have only access to NA eShop as my 3DS XL is region locked there, but I currently live in New Zealand. I'm sure you know that the US eShop only accepts American credit cards. Well, I found this post here saying otherwise: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/26572
Now, since my credit card is based in New Zealand, will doing what the person did in that post also work for me (Australia and New Zealand are right next to each other and have a fair amount of similarities)?

In my previous post, someone suggested changing my location to Canada so that I can access the Canadian eShop due to it accepting also non-American credit cards. Would this also work?

Thanks, again! :D

What are you asking is illegal I am afraid and probably can't be discussed here.

I kinda knew something like this would arise. But which part of my questions are exactly illegal? The foreign credit card on a US eShop, the tax-free location in Canada, or is it the whole thing? If it's the whole thing, then may I request an admin to remove it?

Discussing Tax free locations is illegal. You can actually remove that part by using the edit button on your first post.

@Tasuki Is it alright now? To be honest, at this point, I wouldn't mind paying tax, just as long as I can use an International credit card on either of these eShops. ;/

Yep, thats better.

Honestly this sort of question would be better to ask Nintendo. I would just call them or email them and tell them that you have an foreign credit card and a NA 3DS and is there anyway you can use it on the eshop. I am sure that they will tell you how to go about it.

Well, you see I've thought of that earlier on, but what if they decide to use my credit card as an instrument to track me down and charge me with doing illicit things. ._. I may be exaggerating but this truly concerns me though...

Well if you are doing nothing wrong then you wont have anything to worry about, and if you are doing something wrong my suggestion is to quite while you are ahead.

If you truly worried about that then your best bet is to just stick with eShop cards instead of using your credit card.

Well, I've been certainly changing my console's locations a lot... But other than that, I haven't done anything that may cross the line.

Also, I've tried buying eShop cards from PCGamesupply.com (in fact, that's the first thing I tried) but everything was sold out! And apparently, it's a little bit more expensive there.

Well then if you haven't been doing anything illegal then there is no need to be afraid. I am sure that if you contact Nintendo about your problem you wont be the first or the last with that problem. :)

@Tasuki I was just reading some posts on GBATemp, and apparently A LOT of people have been banned from Club Nintendo simply just by asking a similar question to mind regarding international credit cards..... When I read that, I recently just sent an email to Nintendo... Oh god....

I was banned from club nintendo for asking if games bought on another regional eshop could be added to an american club nintendo account heh.

If you want to buy things from the american eshop, you can buy prepaid cards online from another site like amazon. Most sellers email you the code.

not sure why that would be bannable but good luck in finding a solution. I want a Japanese 3DS LL at some point and would love to know the answer...

  • Pretty sure it's bannable because Nintendo found out that you were basically buying games from a different region of the console and adding them to an American Club Nintendo account. It's all got to do with prices, availability of the game and taxes. It's all complicated since Nintendo introduced region-locking to their systems.....
  • The only online shop which sells prepaid cards and emails you the code and is trusted by a lot of people is PC Gamesupply, but all of their cards are out of stock. ;/
  • I'm pretty sure Japanese 3DS consoles accepts International Credit Cards, it was just the USA that was dodgy.

@uberchu: they banned me because in my question I mentioned having a foreign (Mexican) 3DS, with that they assumed I was Mexican and that I couldn't use the service and banned me on the spot.

They did tell me that I could recuperate the account by calling to their customer service and convincing them that I lived in the united states... Though since they're actually quite right I decided to not do anything about it and play by their rules.... That, and the idea of talking english over the phone to some clerk is quite terrifying.

Oh, the changing your system's region to Canada and city to Alberta seems to be working for a lot of people since Canada accepts international credit cards and Alberta has only 5% tax... I might try it... Though I wish it was tax free, since now I have to add a $50 fund on my eShop account just so I can pay that lousy $1 tax. ._. Complete and utter BS right there...

Dunno, if discussing this is illegal, but oh well....

@saveline: that's actually not the reason. They banned me because they could't verify if their service (sending free gifts from another country in exchange of virtual money) was legal in my country. Still, I wasn't receiving the gifts in my home, my uncle in Arizona did, so I don't know what was all the fuzz :P

In a way, they were protecting themselves from my country's laws. Just in case.

@Morphtorok Well, in a way, my reply was somewhat generalized. Since if you buy a game from another country with tax, you're basically paying that country's tax. It was a reason Nintendo was banning people. Still hoping that what this guy: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/26572 did would work out for me... Though if I did this and it worked, I'm afraid I may be risking getting into a heaaaappp of trouble...

Considering video games in my country are shipped from the united states, we actually pay two taxes: theirs and ours.

By the way, I do think that talking about evading taxes is frowned upon in this site. You should either keep that to yourself or don't do it at all. I'd recommend to delete that url from your message, too.

Heh. At this point, I would rather pay a loveton of taxes than not being able to use an International credit card in a NA eShop. I'm just gonna try the Canada method one. Guess, this been's resolved...
Thanks guys. c:
