Whats new?

Its about time we all move on to iPad, and leave our Nintendo baby games behind.

Careful, if you drip too much sarcasm you might accidentally drown yourself :D

I am more annoyed by the fact that because I live in Australia, I must pay more for any games, including eshop games.
For example:
Pullblox ----$9.00
Rayman---$12.00
Dillon's Rolling Western ---$15.00
Plants vs Zombies ----$12.00
Cut the Rope ---- $7.50

This is the tip of the iceberg. I could even justify spending these amounts, and indeed I have; but it cuts a little bit deeper each time I am reminded that I have to pay much more than other regions for the same games.

I know!!! But I keep getting sucked in :-(
I have some great games (and some not so great ones; I am looking at you, Real Crimes: Jack the Ripper) but it pains me that I get ripped off (compared to prices overseas).

Nintendo has an Australian office, yes?

That's not something we want to lose, right?

That's why we pay more.

Please do not take this as rudeness, but can you elaborate? I mean, many countries would have a local Nintendo office...I think I am missing your point? Surely the games are manufactured overseas, and I imagine the eshop digital games are also designed offshore; it should not cost much more than any other country to deliver the same product....
*To clarify, I understand that there will be mark up for retailers. But the eshop prices? there really should be fewer intermediaries thus, less price discrepancies...

**Seriously, I am not being rude! I am just a bit slow today. Exam tomorrow :-(

Nintendo still needs to pay the wages of the people that work here, is what I'm talking about.

Australia has a small population, and a high average wage compared to most places in the world. This means that for Australia to be as profitable as it needs to be to be sustainable, the prices need to be higher - less copies to sell means you need to sell them for more.

Just be glad we're not Brazil. :)

I hope that clarifies what I meant? I hope so. :)

Good luck in the exam!

I just want to reiterate this. That's lunch at a fast food joint. Heck, even $12 is not that much, considering what you usually get for it.

Eh I really can't conplain, retail games are usually sold for twice their US price here in Mexico, but eShop games are actually sightly cheaper here than in the US!

Though their need to slap a .99 to everything is really annoying...

I don't think they are, but when you compare the prices of products on the eShop, and the Wii shop too, to those of similar titles found on digital services like Steam, you could definitely make the claim that they're often being sold above market price. Although I personally feel like those services underprice their software a lot of the time (not that I'm complaining).

LOL I have some old Brazilian currency; yeah, I am glad we do not have their problems...

I understand your remarks on wages/country size (my undergrad was in finance) but it would be unlikely that wages would have that much of an impact, given that much of the work is done offshore. In fact, (and I am loath to cite Wikipedia, for the record I am too lazy to check the source) it has been reported that the Nintendo Australia office in Victoria only has 97 members of staff; additionally, and this is my view, there is no need for multiple offices/manufacturing plants. This means that there would be less impact of the high costs of real estate/rent/depreciating machinery to factor in, because they simply do not exist.
No, if there are additional costs, they lie elsewhere. And what are these costs? Do they justify such a large mark up? This is what I want to know...

Anyway, I will probs be offline for the weekend! The exam is a 3-dayer. No kidding. I will need that luck! ;-)

That's just ridiculous. Dillon's Rolling Western was already expensive, but for $15? O_O

They all seem over-priced, honestly. Most are pretty decent games, but when you add all of your 3DSWare purchases together, you wouldn't say that It was worth it. I'd rather spend my money on retail games (unless we get stuff like Plants vs. Zombies 3D, Angry Birds 3D, or something really cool and worth the price). I do think Mario Tennis Open should have a 'lite' version where it is sort of downgraded in terms of modes and customization, just a little cheaper for like $10. Still gonna buy that game though, :3

I'd rather have VVVVVV, Mighty Switch Force, and Sakura Samurai than PvZ3D, and Angry Birds 3D any day.

I'm not saying those games are bad, but they're not well suited for 3DS, unlike the majority of current 3DSWare offerings. Also, if you think the current games are overpriced (I don't BTW), I don't understand why you'd think PvZ and AB would be fine at that price point (especially since you can get them cheaper elsewhere).

I can't speak for PvZ as I haven't played it, but as for Angry Birds, there's nothing at all special about it IMO. Why you'd think eShop would be better with that than current eShop games (which I usually find to be of a much better quality than the vast majority of iOS offerings) is a bit baffling to me. It certainly wouldn't attain better sales than current eShop games. Traditional gamers tend gravitate to the 3DS, and most tend to despise Angry Birds (and if someone did want to get it, again I'm sure they'd op for the cheaper option).
