I just beat level 5, this game just gets better with every level. I didn't have enough stars to get into level 6, so I went back and replayed level 2. I only had 2 stars on it, I failed the earth dew mission. It's funny how easy the 2nd level to replay, and I was only 3 seconds away from 5 stars! I plan on Taking on level 6 today.

I failed the last day on level 7 twice now because of distractions and the fact I didn't make it back to town quick enough to get more money and rebuild my walls. Not to mention drop off more of those whatever they are called. NO MORE DISTRACTIONS FOR ME AND I WILL BEAT IT ON MY NEXT TRY!

just a quick question, how do people usually deal with the hammer grocks and the spring grocks? The hammer grocks I always attack with Dillon since they destroy towers fast, but I keep getting hit when I try to get them with a roll. The spring grocks too, I always fumble around and miss a lot.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Use a claw attack. That's the best way to get rid of them fast.

Best way to deal with the hammer grocks is a fully charged attack or you can wait until they pound themselves and get stuck in the ground. Otherwise the hammer grocks hit you after two strikes. Spring grocks are easy. At the beginning of the battle they jump towards you and right before they land, roll into them and start your claw combo.

So I barely beat town 7 today. So far the first two days of town 8 seem really easy. Even with the money you start out with I have my towers doing most of the damage for a change! Its a welcomed change of pace.

@Tech101 - I found Town 8 a lot easier than Town 7 too, but here's some advice that'll be helpful on Day 3 of Town 8: The first Megagrock (the tower one that doesn't move) you encounter will be somewhere that you can't see on your map; it should be in the lower left corner in that one spot where your only access points are a cliff drop-off and a stretch of mud.

Thanks for the heads up birdman! I usually save my super charge for that one and defeat him rather easily. Does anyone know what happens if he gets that shot off?

It begins destroying your towers one by one. That happened to me once, and I lost within 2-3 minutes of it starting. While you can restart from the beginning of Day 3, I'd just take him out immediately. Quite literally, the only difference between my winning and losing strategies was the amount of time it took me to take him out. The first time.

Yeah, he shoots down a tower every 5 seconds or so, starting with watch towers first (he's pretty polite, ain't he?) then weapons towers. The only time it's happened to me I had all wood towers, so I don't know if iron or steel ones would stand up to mutliple shots, but wooden ones go down with a single shot. After he's taken out all your towers he focuses his shots on......probably nothing. I didn't have any reinforced gates set up, but maybe he destroys those. He doesn't otherwise harm the village or scrogs.
Funny enough, I survived that brutal onslaught (no visibility) but decided to reset the day for all the costly damage that was done.

It is tower defense but generally you are killing or finishing off about 50%-75% of the enemies yourself. The towers are just there as an aid. You are very very involved. In fact if you aren't moving around the level constantly you are probably going to lose a tower or some scrogs lol. Its way more involved than a regular tower defense. You enter a battle screen when you attack the grocks too and all have a different strategy to defeating them. look up some videos. its pretty fun, but aggravating at times.

Town 8 was a breeze. Town 9 I had to start all over from the beginning but it was easy after I figured out where the towers needed to be. Still it was hard the first go around! Off to twin 10 and it definitely looks interesting!

Noticing that you get more cash by letting weapons towers take out Grocks, I'd say my play-style is much closer to 30%-50% of the enemies being taken out with Dillon.
I think you could really wear out the game's welcome with yourself if you keep up a play-style nearer the 75% end. I dunno, I purposefully don't have the best gear available for Dillon, for the sake of maximizing the yield of the mining phase, but maybe if you did grab all the best stuff then you could handle that many Grocks in later towns, but I feel like that play-style would lead to repeat failures in later levels.

I actually agree more with vay. I was going to say almost the exact same thing. Specially about the towers being more of an aid. My biggest problem with the towers is that they sometimes don't face the way I want them to. Some times the Gatling guns are not that effective and if close enough to the road I prefer shotguns to be honest. The long range cannons are also nice but Dillon has to protect them himself or they will get taken out a lot!
So far I failed the last boss twice. I've thrown everything I have at it and still couldn't take him down. I now know what to do but still it wont be easy. This is by far one of the longest boss battles in gaming history outside of an RPG that is!

Hm. I wasn't denouncing the idea that it's more active than a typical tower defense game, and/or that using Dillon during the fight isn't important, I was just commenting on how it usually breaks down for me. The "end of day" results screen always shows that weapons towers handled more enemies than Dillon did. I dunno if he was guessing at his "50% to 75%" figure or if our playstyles are really so different.
To my perception, Gatling Gun towers always do more damage than Shotgun towers of the same level. Shotgun towers have the benefit of being able to shoot Grocks attacking them head-on, from all sides, of course, so if a Grock chooses to pummel a tower, the Shotgun would end up doing more damage that way. I mostly stopped using shotguns when I noticed the damage difference, so the difference between our perceptions could be that you see the Shotgun towers defeating more Grocks because of head-on attacks, where my heavy Gatling Gun use might mean I more often need to take out Grocks attacking the weapons towers instead. And maybe this kind of distraction naturally lead to me letting Grocks run into the range of my weapons towers, rather than traveling to them first, as often.

I decided to take the advice of the above and sell my roll and grind upgrades so I'd get more money from mining. On the eighth town, I was getting combos of 100+ while mining, and when you get a combo of 100, 110, 120 etc you get an instant 1000 money! I was able to get level three towers everywhere and the night sessions were so much breezier.

That might work in town 8 but town 9 is a different beast all together. Town 8 could easily be beat with towers however town 9 needs Dillon to be much more active even with ever tower built. If your not strong enough the grocks will overwhelm you to easily.
I finally beat this game the other night on my third try! It was still very hard as I barley beat it. A couple of nice surprises await at the end! In order to get them you need over 100,000 cash for one and all 50 stars for the second. I was just shy of the cash so I did one more level to earn it and it was worth it! As for the 50 stars I've only got 29 and a long ways to go to see what that one is all about! Really nice game and I've put over 25 hours into it and probably another 25 just to get the 50 stars. That's longer then most retail games. Well worth the 9.99 price tag!

I appreciate that others can find success with this strategy, although I personally go for a higher level roll attack. Not the highest available, but I feel more comfortable with the balance of that.
