Since you will most probably keep your current 3DS, there's no problem.

You won't need to change your location to "China" on your 3DS.

Meowph, that's right!

Oh! eShop Gurus.

If you keep your N.A. 3DS, it'll still get on our eShop.

Heck, I'm not sure if China has an eShop, because I don't think Nintendo operates in China. I want to say the last thing they released over there was the iQue Player (a variation on the N64).

As long as you have wifi then you don't need to worry about missing Denpa Men.
Your american 3DS will access the american eShop.

Good luck in China

You will still be able to access the eShop. However, you will not be able to use Chinese eShop cards to "top up" your credit (if the Chinese even have the 3DS). You will need to import your credit recharge cards from now on.

I also wouldn't play my 3DS in public in China for a while if I were you. They don't like the Japanese right now.

HaastMK7

I hope the above will work for you, good luck!

Speaking of Nintendo in China, the iQue Player (that variation on the N64), is still their current console over there. It only has 14 games (all first party)! It launched in 2003 with Super Mario 64, LoZ:OoT, and SF64. The most recent release was Custom Robo in 2006. Majora's Mask was planned for release, but cancelled, due to parts of it violating China's censorship laws. Nintendo is still supporting it apparently, with plans to add online functionality to games like Mario Kart 64 & F-Zero X in the future.

China also only recently got its first Call of Duty game, and it's a free-to-play one.

Most game companies haven't bothered with China traditionally because, despite being the biggest population in the world, the majority of Chinese don't make enough money to buy games, and those Chinese that do prefer to pirate them. And also local businessmen copy foreign products and sell them in China for a fraction of the price.

But with the rise of mobile gaming there's more interest there in the free-to-play sales models and the like, which the Chinese are are happy to support as the rest of the world. American McGee, the guy behind Alice: Madness Returns and a whole bunch of other great games actually lives in Shanghai now making mobile games because of the potential of that market.

Though it's probably been sufficiently answered already, in theory you should be able to access the NA eShop. I accessed it and downloaded the Heroes of Ruin demo while I was in New Zealand this past summer, so it shouldn't be any different there. Then again, Chinese internet restrictions are much tighter than here in the U.S. or New Zealand. I'd go with @OlympicCho's advice over mine, though. He has more experience with world travel and whatnot...

Exactly.

Yeah I know this since people who take there 3DS to any country can access the regions eShop, that's what I'll do when I move to Japan

I have a feeling the internet in that area is blocked and restricted severely. Maybe you should stay where you are to be safe from whatever could happen in China.

There are pirates, you know, YAR

If you have one of those "portable hotspot" thingies, then it will work, so "Buy some before you go"

They have an iQue branded 3DS / 3DS XL.
