Since it looks like the Guild 02 titles will be releasing soon (starting with THE STARSHIP DAMREY), I guess it isn't too soon to start a thread for this.

On YouTube, NintenDaan1 has at least 3 videos of it up (official JP eShop trailer, game opening, and tutorial mission).

The story revolves around a German tank regimen that mysteriously vanishes during WWII. In reality, somehow they were shrunk, and now you have to guide them to survival against aggressive insects (ants, bees, etc). The game allows you to customize your tank with various parts, and is said to have some sort of multiplayer component.

As for how the game looks, the animations of the bugs looked a little stiff, but other than that the graphics look adequate for a download title.

Not all germans were bad, you know? Even among the military but sometimes you're stuck and can't do as you please which sometimes is terrible.

About the game, it looks pretty bad. The graphics are bad and the game seems to be very simple. I'll wait until reviews start to roll but right now I'm not interested.

The odd thing is that for a Japanese podcast, despite this being the game least anticipated out of the 3 guild 02 games, it was generally considered the best. The opposite happened to A Tokyo Tale.

I'll hand it to this game - out of the entire three it looks to be the most fun to play. While the other two have more interesting premises, I doubt they will be as engaging. Both A Tokyo Tale and Starship Damrey seem to be more like interactive fiction than a true gaming experience, at least from what I've seen so far.

The nazis did horrible and unspeakable things there is no doubt about it but do you really think all germans were bad? Even the soldiers? What about Vietnam and the horrid napalm? UK's army in India? Japan? All armies have done terrible things and to think that all of their soldiers agreed with them is just plain dumb.

Maybe they just felt less guilt about making them German instead of Japanese. The Japanese weren't exactly saints in WWII either.

I'm german. German's aren't bad. It's what the Nazi's did way back when to the jewish people that was beyond bad as for the holocaust.

Happy Gaming! (^_^)

That comment seems rather bigoted to me. Every country has skeletons in its closet, and unless the game features explicit Nazi references I don't see a problem.

Anyhow, can't wait for this. Inafune's games are usually quite fun.

First off, I'd like to say that I don't think Germans are bad (heck, I have German heritage on my dad's side).

Also aware that not all German soldiers were bad at the time (no such thing as a bad populace, just bad seeds, which can lead to bad governments), but it's still very different from which roles we're usually given in games (my initial reaction was more due to surprise than anything).

From the videos I've seen, there is no explicit Nazi imagery, or anything like that.

The game looks like it could be fun, though. If I'm not mistaken, I think it might have some sort of multiplayer function.

Yup, not buying a game for the sole reason of it having german soldiers as playable characters sounds like a really weird thing, it sounds even wrong.

Anyway, this title doesn't really interest me... I don't know why, I guess battling giant bugs with tiny tanks is not my thing. That starship game, on the other hand...

Oh look! A Morphloggery.

It is very easy for good people to commit evil acts when pressured by authority figures. See the Milgram experiment. A person's behavior is also deeply influenced by the social context of a situation. See the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Finally, given the desperation of Germans due to overwhelming war debts, international humiliation, and hyperinflation, it is no surprise that Germany went the way it did around that time period.

It must also be noted that Hitler was deeply influenced by the ideas and literature of early-twentieth-century American Eugenicists.

But yes, it is a very different sort of role to play in a video game. I hope NOA doesn't censor the game and remove the references to World War II era Germany. I'm even more concerned about the European version of the game in that respect.

Im abit looking forward for this game, reminds me of a n64 game called Army men air combat and a gamecube game called army men, it was a fun game that I enjoyed.
And just because you play as germans shouldn't mean you can't play the game. Theres games that you kill nazi's and one I can recall where you play as nazi's and those games where pretty awsome.

Obviously you are free to choose whatever you want but things rarely are black or white.

It is simply an emotional issue. German soldiers still fought under the Nazi Flag. It is unthinkable for me to actually take their side even on a silly virtual videogame. When you lose 6 million people in the most horrific way possible, it is not "bigoted" to not want to play Germany's army during WWII (!). Not going to apologize about that. Having said that, I could buy the game, lose purposely and let them be devoured by giant insects.

It is an understandable reaction.
But just for the record, the vast majority of German soldiers during WWII were not members of the Nazi party, and most of them had no idea what was going on with respect to the atrocities and genocide and such.

I like it. The environments aren't terribly detailed, but the tank and bug models are exquisite-looking, and they really pop with the 3D maxed out. The gameplay is fairly simplistic. It's an arcade-style action game with a bunch of hidden items to find (mostly different types of tanks you can choose to control). Activating the linked content option gives you a sweet-looking gold tank that is fairly powerful at the beginning of the game. The story is nothing more than short snippets of the soldiers talking about how to survive.

There's a decent amount of customization options. Different types of shells to use, different paint colors for your tank, difficulty options, gameplay options (you can automate the tank's attack for when you get an enemy in your sights, or you can fire at enemies yourself, which I prefer), tons of different tanks to choose from, streetpass content, and local multi-player.

If there was a survival mode or something that made replay value I would get it, but looking at the past guild titles there is really no replay value.

You're given scores for each "mission." There's a decent amount of replay value between collectibles and mission grades. Also, a large number of missions. Of the Guild titles, arguably the only one that is comparable in length or value is Crimson Shroud.
