Topic: Angry at Nicalis. Game destroying bug in 1001 spikes.

I should have learned with Grinsia, but no. Everyone was praising 1001 Spikes, that the bug were not so bad in this one. Not so bad you say. Let me show you a copy of the message I've sent to Nicalis this morning out of anger, and let it be a warning to everyone. BACK-UP YOUR SAVE A LOT WITH THIS GAME!!!

"I have an BIG problem with you latest release 1001 Spikes on the 3DS. It was said that the game will be releasing with bugs, and I have indeed experienced many of them. Freeze on 1-6 with many extra characters, the game becoming very laggy after long play session. But this one is unacceptable. After many hours of farming coins to buy the last item at 1000001 coins, I finally got it. Very happy to be done with it, I went and try it in one stage of the story mode. And then afterward, I went to see if it was working in the Lost Levels (which is not). Upon exiting the Lost Levels, the game crashed. Since it's something normal to have a lot of game crash in your games (Grinsia still not fixed), I just rebooted my 3DS, and went back to your game...BUT NOW, when I'm at the title screen and select Game Start, the game crash EVERYTIME!!! I cannot even play anymore, it doesnt even go to the save file screen, it crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME. How great, now the game is unplayable except if I delete everything and lose many hours of progress. I want a fix for this very quickly. I cannot even understand how a bug that can litteraly brick your game can pass quality control. I hope you find a solution quickly, else you can be sure it will be the last time I ever buy one of your game, and will make sure to anti-promote all your games on every Nintendo sites possible in the future (still waiting for a full Grinsia fix too).

Have a nice day!

An angry customer."

I will post this on other related forum too, you can be sure, so that everyone knows about it. Nicalis, unless you fix this, it's the last time I'm ever buying something from you, and since your community is VERY niche, a little bad mouth to mouth can really destroy you.

Well at least they spend a lot of time in quality control. Am I right?

Gotta catch them... eh, nevermind.

Drac_Mazoku

@Zodiak13: ahah, yeah, enough time to say that they will release their games WITH BUGS before actual release now. This was pathetic enough. But to have a game-breaking glitch like that...I admit that I'm angry at myself to have believe everyone thinking this game will not be a buggy mess like all their previous others (at least not as much). It's now their number 1 worst game (in term of actual glitch, because what is so frustrating is that the game itselfd IS AWESOME...but Nicalis destroys everything AGAIN!!!)

@pixelman: I understand the feeling. Well Nicalis, I 100% hate them. They just chose VERY GOOD games, but end up butchering the port job all the way! I would love to enjoy their games without worrying, but it's impossible. VVVVVV flip-mode not even tested by selecting it in the menu (it was giving a Black Screen), Grinsia freezing everywhere (even after patch), many horror stories with their different releases of cave story, and now this. How low can they get?

That sucks. I've really enjoyed the game, and it sounds like you do as well when it works since you've put so much time into it. I've experienced the 1-6 freeze bug which makes some of the extra characters unplayable, but that's it so far. I had heard that a fix would come soon, but yeah...who knows. I'll be sure to back up my saves.

I decided not to buy it because of my experience with bugs in VVVVVV, and my distrust that they will fix the bugs the game released with. I'll buy the game if they actually manage to fix the game for you though without you losing all your progress. Let us know how it goes.

They better reply. I'm not into this game that much, but a repeating bug this huge is unforgivable. Best of luck to you.

Thank you to all the later replier who took this more seriously. Yes I was under rage mode when I wrote all this (because investing so much time on such an hard game, and then losing all your progress is really deperessing)...but even now, I still think this is not acceptable to release a game in this state. Even with the initial known bugs it was a stretch, BUT with a GAME-DESTROYING ONE? Now this is going too far, even for them and their low quality-control standard. Such things should not have went through to begin with. And I'm tired to see that for Nicalis, the players are actually their testers. Pathetic.

I must say this thread has given me something to think about. I haven't downloaded any Nicalis games off the eShop yet and I don't think I will. I honestly have no patience for buggy games. I was considering getting VVVVVV and Cave Story since they're on sale but I don't think I will bother now. I do hope everything works out for you though and they actually fix the game so everyone can enjoy it.

PS @Drac_Mazoku Please keep us updated if they respond to you, I'm curious to see if they will and what they say.

Weren't these guys the ones who were complaining about Nintendos quility controll being annoying or something? If so then lol.

Yep they were but Nintendo's quality control made wiiware of pretty high quality. The relaxed system for the eshop was not good for the consumer.

What anger me the most is that while they were MAYBE trying to fix some of the obvious glitch, the ones they announced they knew about, this would surely not ever have been fix, so when they would have released their so called-patch, people would maybe still have to go through what I went through myself, and lost tons of progress, just because they can't even hire one person to FULLY test everything possible in the game. I was not even trying to do anything special. Just bought the Thompsoncare, then went in the Lost Levels, and upon exiting, the game crashed, and since then, no way to ever play again. It's not some special hard to do manipulation to crash your game, it's entering and exiting a game mode.

The only Nicalis game I have is NightSky but I haven't had any problems so far.

@Drac_Mazoku

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will be sure to avoid 1001 Spikes and Grinsia then. It is not only a bad thing to release buggy games, but to know the bugs are there and not fix them. Nintendo does not even charge developers for patches so there is really no excuse not to fix those issues.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Drac_Mazoku

Thanks sinalefa. I hope this is what indeed people will do, to stop buying those Nicalis games, even if originally those games were for the most part AWESOME (and this is what hurt the most). It was the final nail in the coffin for me, Nicalis is never having another $ from me, and I will be sure to remind everyone of their past mistakes in their future releases (even more if they cannot give me a good reply to my message). Yes I was a fool buying 1001 spikes after Grinsia, but never I would have thought that a game-breaking bug like that would slip through

And the fact they not only won't fix them but don't try to do better on the games that follow. That's just insulting to their customers.

good thing the only Nicalis game I got was NightSky since it looks to be the only one without game breaking bugs....

Both VVVVVV and Cave Story work fine on the 3DS, as far as I'm aware.

Nicalis do seem to have some issues with the quality of their output. With various issues like taking about 2 years to get Cave Story out in EU.
I've emailed them before and I didn't get a reponse. So I wouldn't hold your breath.

It is partly the developers fault as well though, I assume. I mean, bugs in something like Skyrim is excusable. But bugs in a 2D platformer and a 2D RPG? They must have done almost no testing.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Noob_The_Third

I have VVVVVV, NightSky and Cave Story on my 3DS and I haven't experienced any bugs with them, and I have 100 hours with VVVVVV.
