For those of you who have played both versions (or have tried both control modes in this version), what do you think of the new Custom Control Mode (able to jump while aiming upward, continuous shooting, faster arrows, slower jumping speed, shorter character reaction time, etc.) compared to the Original Control Mode?

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

It's nice to have, but it makes the game way too easy, imho. It's already easier in its 3D Classics form by default, what with the glitches fixed, slowdown removed and sprite cycles better regulated (among other things I'm probably forgetting), so the custom control mode just seems like an unnecessary step toward making it even easier.

Cool to have, but I felt guilty when I played with it. :D

Forgive me if this has been covered but how do you get the score milestones to increase your endurance at the end of a level? I started over after watching the episode of GameCenter CX which Arino played Kid Icarus. Apparently, I was playing without ever increasing my endurance.

Edit: Nevermind, I just kinda suck, lol. I've been farming points from the lava things that pop up where you stand and that has helped my scores.

You know, I totally forgot about the glitches in the original cart of this game on my NES back in the day. I would literally be in 'mid-jump' as Pit and it would get all blotchy and slow. LOL. Too many things on the screen moving, I guess. That really irked me. I think Metroid had a couple of the same issues, which makes sense because they were both "password" games released side by side back in the day, I owned them both and still do on the original carts ;)

Alright, so after finishing KI: 3D Classics I've come to a suprising conclusion(or maybe not) I still prefer the NEs original. Why you ask?
Because i feel that it's got better sound effects over the Japanese original. Mainly just pit's magical & wierd/memorable cry sound effect when he gets and the indoor foot step SFX mainly. In 3D Classics Pit makes a "uh!" sound when he gets hit and it's pretty lame in comparison.

Some of the underworld back drops are a bit of a mixed bag, i prefered the black background of the original....At least for the first stage. :p
While some of the new backgrounds are just wonderful, including some of the newly designed dreamy/whimsical platforms found in Sky Land(Up and down scrolling stages) and the 3D effect breaths new life into the game. Also, 3D classics seemed a bit easier. Death was invicinble when he was screaming in the original, plus the reapettes moved faster ect ect....While in 3D classics he wasn't invinvible and reapettes moved slowly ect ect.

Both versions have their ups and downs i guess. But Nostalgia holds far too with me and the original, so KI: 3D classics never had a shance. :p

LOL. "Squee!" when Pit dies. I miss that, too. You're so right. Nothing beats the original cart, but 3D Classics is great as a seperate game on its own merit!

lol Kid Icarus on Cart was every bit as magical as The Legend of Zelda, even more so imo. ;) It's just 3D Classics tossed out some of the magic by going with the Famicom versions SFX while adding unfitting backdrops that didn't exactly look 8-bit.. The empy black backgrounds of the Nes version gave the underworld stages a more mysterious feel. Hmmm, maybe it's just that warm fuzzy late 80's nostalgia....Nah, funk it. The original was better AND more challenging. :p

That said, KI: 3D Classics is still the best 3D Classics game I'd say, that or Excite Bike with a splash of Kirby's Adventure. B-)

^I'd say that this is my second favorite 3D Classic, right behind Kirby's Adventure (Excitebike got bland quick, IMO).

I can't compare this to the original, but are you sure the NES version's sound was better, or is that the nostalgia talking? From what I understand, the FDS was more advanced than the NES, so a lot of stuff was either removed or downgraded when porting FDS games to NES carts for western releases.

It's just personal preference, not a matter of being better. I mean forget the nostalgia, i really do prefer the SFX of the NES release.
Pits "uh!" SFX when he gets hit sounds no where near as memorable in comparison to the weird squeeky magical sound he makes instead in the NES version. There seem to be a couple of other differences as well, including the foot step SFX whenever Pit enters a door and he's inside a room wlking around.

And ya, ExciteBike definitly does get bland pretty quick, but it's got a lot of charm and it was the first 3D Classic to be released shortly after the release of the 3DS. B-) Beats out Twin Bee, UC, and Xevious imo. I hate Twinbee more than i hate a swarm of Baxter Stockman's manic mousers chompin' down on my Marshmallow anchovi pizza. :p

3D Classics Excitebike needs an update that includes online multiplayer for 4 people. That would immediately make it one of the best titles on the eShop.

What Excite Bike: 3D Classics really needs is some music. :p
Racing down those 8-bit tracks to bleeps and bloops without a single tune in site makes this game feel part Atari 2600.

D/l'd a while ago, but only just got round to playing this...
There's lots of good ideas in the game, but i got bogged down with the respawning enemies and the grinding required to afford items in shops, these elements really got on my nerves at first and hampered my enjoyment of the game. I'll probably stick with the game a little longer. The power-ups awarded at the end of levels help a great deal, and i at least want to beat the first boss. On my first attempt i got locked in the boss' chamber not being able to shoot, i'd been hit by the eggplant wizard's spell...
