@waveboy Nah don't bother with the centurions, I don't think it's necessary to free them all, but go ahead if you want the challenge. I personally didn't bother because I just wanted to get a good high score at the end of the game and get the most hearts, plus on the other hand centurions die really easily in the boss fights which you use them in, it's just not worth it to me.
@grumblegrumble Wow, thanks thats great of you to share and what a coincidence us both playing the game having cancer (of some sort). I LOL'd when you mentioned Zelda II, cos I stink at that game and it's harder than Kid Icarus too.

So do you guys bother to try and rescue all of the Angels turned to Stone in the palaces by smashing them with your trust mallets which you constantly need to buy? Or do you just free them with the ones you already have and ignore the rest?

Part of me wants to free them all, because it feels like you 'should' and it makes the palace gameplay feel more full and complete, but a large chunkster' of me hates them in battle. I want to go against the boss one on one without any help getting in the way or making the battle easier. The first Palace bosses health guage i went up against was basically slaughtered, since i rescued all of the angels. :p

Edit: Currently on stage 3-4(3rd Palace) and good lord I think I'm about to have a mental videogame meltdown.lol Talk about confusing, it's bad enough that the map itself is so hard to find. eek! BTW the new backdrops added for stages 3-1 & 3-2 are pretty gorgeous! :D defniitly sets off a dreamy surreal look in combination with the colorful level design itself.

Haha! You see what I went through in the 80's now as a kid playing this when it came out ;) It was a very confusing but addictive game! Yes, the levels look AMAZING with the new backdrops. I can't imagine playing the old version now! :)

I played the original KI back in 89', and what an amazing little magical experience it was even though i could never beat it. I've got the Cart, and a copy of 'of Myths & monsters' which I'm going to give a shot after i plow through Wario Land 3. It's been a while since I've plays Myths, yet based on memories it wasn't as good as the original for the most part aside from improving the dungeon layout....I think. :p

And I still prefer the black underworld back drops of old KI, but most of the new backdrops in the 3D Classics version are pretty gorgeous. B-)
And Medussa was such a push over! I swear when i beat the NES version back when it hit the Wii's VC it was harder. aside from being able to kill the Reapers when they're running around and calling their reapettes in the 3D Classic version, it seems like nintendo nerfed a bit o fthe difficulty in spots....Either my gaming skills have improved greatly, or Nintendo really did knock down the difficulty. :p

Very good, classic game. Love the save files....but....is it just me, or did they use to let you keep your power ups for a second play through? Now, they are all gone after you beat it. That really sucks.

@Joshers744 - there appears to be no New Game + option like in the original NES game.

On that note, I did Beat this game last night - however, I still have yet to get the Best Ending. :o

Game was OK, better than I thought (but not by much) and waaaay easier than first anticipated.

I want this game so bad but for some reason Nintendo of America hates Canadians! :(

I do have Kid Icarus on Wii Virtual Console but I want the updated look, fancy backgrounds, gimmicky 3D, and SAVE FILES. Having this game with save files on a portable console would make it so much more reasonable to play through than in its other forms.

Strangely enough, I finished Zelda II in a matter of a week when it first came out... and I was around 10 years old! Lol.. I always thought Kid Icarus was way harder because the way Pit moves is so slippery and drove me insane. SO I never won or finished that game because it was so difficult. With Kid Icarus 3D Classics I have been able to almost finish, just a couple more stages to go!

Alright, so after finishing KI: 3D Classics I've come to a suprising conclusion(or maybe not) I still prefer the NEs original. Why you ask?
Because i feel that it's got better sound effects over the Japanese original. Mainly just pit's magical & wierd/memorable cry sound effect when he gets and the indoor foot step SFX mainly. In 3D Classics Pit makes a "uh!" sound when he gets hit and it's pretty lame in comparison.

Some of the underworld back drops are a bit of a mixed bag, i prefered the black background of the original....At least for the first stage. :p
While some of the new backgrounds are just wonderful, including some of the newly designed dreamy/whimsical platforms found in Sky Land(Up and down scrolling stages) and the 3D effect breaths new life into the game. Also, 3D classics seemed a bit easier. Death was invicinble when he was screaming in the original, plus the reapettes moved faster ect ect....While in 3D classics he wasn't invinvible and reapettes moved slowly ect ect.

Both versions have their ups and downs i guess. But Nostalgia holds far too with me and the original, so KI: 3D classics never had a shance. :p

Oh man, this 3D classics version makes this game so much more worth playing! The backgrounds with the 3D combined seem to liven the game a little more. Despite the fact that I breezed right through it and actually got the 999 hearts ending with the little angels. You kinda have to have patience with each set of flying or blue enemies that come at ya, and make sure no more are coming before you proceed each section of a level, clear every dungeon room every visit. it got me leveled up real fast every few levels. I honestly wasn't expect that as opposed to having to go through it a 2nd time around. I've only ever gotten 2 other endings/reveals from the original.

On the sound for this game, the sound effects (the beeps and stuff) are the loudest thing I have every heard on the 3DS. I never have thought the sound goes loud enough on the system (especially the sound on Nintendo Video), but the beeps on this game, actually somewhat hurt my eyes a little. :p Don't know why other games won't go this loud. Anyway, I've been through it once (on this version only once anyway). Anytime those stupid bad guys that steal your upgrades get me, I kill myself.

Agreed on the sound, i always have to turn it down when i start up the game! :) I too wonder why the volume levels on various games seem to vary so much on the 3DS.

Also, the Plutons (appearing only in two stages in World 2) are easy to avoid once you know when they are going to appear — get one to show up on the right side of the screen, then go back to the left of the screen, standing on higher ground, and jump over them when they come to you. Get the pattern down, and they'll never touch you.
of course, it might be harder than i think it is, as i have played the game several hundred times in the past 25 years, lol

Just downloaded and started playing today, and I'm really enjoying it. Is it true that the game actually get easier later on? I've heard many assert that.

Also, after reading some comments here, I've noticed that some of you are mentioning multiple endings. What do you have to do to get them?

It gets a lot easier, yes. To the point that the final boss just asks you to stand (or, erm, fly...) in one place and shoot them to death. :)

The multiple endings are contingent upon how many aspects of the game you "perfect." You need to have all strength upgrades, all life upgrades, 999 hearts and all training reward weapons. If you have all of those things, you get the best. If you have none, you get the worst. Then there are incremental ones in between.

Loving it so far. To be completely honest I was actually surprised when that old man gave me an upgrade and said my name in game. I was like " whoa wtf!, :O :O!" Than I remembered I had to enter my name in the beginning of the game. Lol!

I read there´s no new game + on this version of Kid Icarus, is it true? if so, does it mean the game can´t be continued like the NES/VC version ?

I beat the game and played through it again. There was no new game+ option, so yeah.

I actually kinda have to wonder how many different 1s thee are because back on the NES aside from the best ending I've only ever gotten 1 where he looks like a little soldier kinda with a little white hat and spear, then1 where's he grown, but isn't the best ending. Would love to find a video what each ending looks like in this version.
