Well I downloaded it and I'm liking it alot more than Xevious. It's got much better stage design and the music is actually catchy. I honestly thought the music in Xevious was kinda grating. It's just got a repetitive sound to it that starts to get annoying. Twinbee feels a little more modern and not so antiquated.
There is definitely more variety in the scenery too.

Here's the thing, though: you'd buy either of those day one (or, enough people would) anyway, so there's no incentive to make them 3D Classics.

Take a lesser-known (but high quality) game and give it a 3D effect, and you've got a lot more interested buyers than you would otherwise.

Maybe, but it's kind of pointless for me. Cause all the games I've seen so far haven't been interesting at all. The only reason I actually own a 3D Classic at all is cause ExciteBike 3D was free for a while :P

I'd never buy it. So I'd really appreciate some of the more 'known' titles myself.

Looking forward to: Mario Kart 8

What I'll add to this game though is that its difficulty is a bit forgiving. Where Xevious was brutal for me, I breezed through 5 levels straight on my first try without dying. The power-ups (in the form of bells oddly) really made it easy for me, and the bomb seems to be on auto target when you're near any enemy. The enemy variety changes as you progress, so thats a plus. the music in the game is fitting. So far, it is a really great game that stands better in this day and age than Xevious IMO.
I could play through more levels but I really need to get some sleep like too.

@Chicken_Brutus Yeah I agree the 3D classics is a better chance for the obscure games to get some recognition. They could just release the popular games in Rom form to the VC and it will sell anyways. Would make more sense to put the effort on titles that people would tend to pass up and charge it for $1 more than its original price. I just wonder what the next game will be. Please be 3D World Runner.

All the various 3D games from those 80s systems would be a nice addition to the 3DS VC, actually.
(but screw World Runner, give us Rad Racer)

I see your point, but games like the NES Marios, the early Zeldas, and the original Metroid are animated with little, if any, visual depth, so making them 3D Classics wouldn't add much to them, anyway. These games being chosen as 3D Classics are games where adding a 3D effect makes sense with the original graphics style. Obviously, Eternal Champion is an exception, and I was surprised at how they handled it, but that kind of alteration in perspective is only a rare option for games where it wouldn't mess up the gameplay.

Personally, I want Space Harrier as a 3D Classic.

Twinbee is a fantastic title, and of all the 3D Classics it's one of the best priced. As a NES game and an import, if this was just a lazy Wii VC shovel over it would have the +1 or 2 dollar import premium on it which thankfully this doesn't. We did in the day get TWINBEE 2 (AKA: STINGER) for the NES which is a mix of vertical and horizontal stages. I've been a fan of the series for a very long time and it's a true classic and so damned odd with all the animals, utensils, fruits, sea life and other junk as enemies and bosses it like coaxes you into wanting to see more screw ball stuff. It's also cool that the power up system isn't a direct gimme, you shoot bells for points or roll them to colors of which each can be multi shot, shield, laser, ghost shots(option from gradius as reference), and others. Upbeat music, very good visuals that are well detailed and drawn, tight controls, and a fair difficulty curve. It's a fantastic game as are the two sequels it got on theNES (though the 3rd one is very short sadly though I doubt we'll ever see that one.)

I totally agree. Downloaded it basically because the review score was so high on here (9/10) and I am super impressed. Love it! :D

Yeah on that run through I just wanted to finish 1-5 so I'd beaten all the levels/bosses so I was concentrating on survival and ended up making it to 2-5. It was quite low scoring compared to some of my other runs that ended earlier(but ended up no.1 overall).

I grabbed it today, have had the Famicom version for a long while. Honestly I think this is the arcade game over the Famicom one as it just feels nastier but that's cool. I got to like Stage 1-5 with around 350-400K on my first attempt. Everything about it hits it on the nose classic wise for sure, but I do have to say the 3D on it beats Xevious. Xevious the little bullets bug me a bit (lose concentration on them in 3D) and at times I don't notice them, didn't have that issue on this one.

Man, I'm having quite the bodacious boogey man blast with this game. B-) And you know, It's been a really long time since I've played anything like this....Since the arcades back in the early 90's actually....I'm talking 'Chuck E Cheese' Arcade game glory days. :p

That aside, the 3D effect is pretty great and i love some of the little quirky enemies such as the energy blasting Hands you see down below and those speedy flying forks. I've made it up to 1-5 which was after my second GameOver, but my 3DS just about died so it's currenly recharging. yay me. Anyways, how many levels are in this game exactly? And it's not easy by any means...Unless your ship is upgraded to the extreme that is, even then you really have to be on your toes .

Overall I'm enjoying this MILESSS more than Excite Bike 3D and it's flat out INtense. :D

How does it compare to Xevious? Cause I got bored with that one after dying over and over in the first level.

Don't have TwinBee yet. I'm not really getting the point of 3D Classics, they're just NES games with "3D" visuals. The only one I really enjoy is Kirby's Adventure.
