What the Hell is going on??
Now I have been a Nintendo fanboy for many years and love everything that nintendo has produced since the NES years right up to the Wii & DS years.
Yesterday I happily open up my latest bundle of Nintendo Joy (The new DSi Black), and tinkered around with the camera and music settings I even admired the way that you can now switch ds carts with out the thing having to shut down oh and then marveled that I could use SDHC cards straight outta da box and no need for updates. Joy Joy Joy!!!

Then I thought to my myself lets get on to the real meat and bones of why I so excitidly exchanged £150 for a DSI (drum roll please) the DSi shop and more specifically the DSiware that is the real reason so many of us have upgraded to DSi's.

I clicked on the button & it said an update is needed, nothing out of the ordinary I thought we've all experianced it with Wii's and other consoles, so I clicked for up date conected to nintendo read the terms and conditions and agreed to them and started download.... or at least I thought I had I kept getting error messages but finally after about 20 - 30 attempts I got connected and it downloaded the the upgrade and Hurrah!! I can now get on the DSiware shop.... or so I thought again I had a quick look around I admired the clean look just like the wii shop and got a little bit excited of the thought of eventually being able to download GB & GBA games when the VC part is added to the channel.

Ok so then I tried to download some stuff with my free 1000 DSI points ...

First port of call Oprea, well because it was free and wasn't going to cost me anything.. I marvelled as mario and friends started to bring blue globs across to fill up the loading bar and the a few mins later it stopped and it could not download, 10 attempts later I managed to get it and a nice little pressie appeared on my DSi menu.

After a quick play I thought right onto the real games... where to start ... hmmm.. Warioware I've seen the films and it looks fun (and I quite secretly enjoy the DS & Wii versions if I am honest with you guys) I pay with my free point I see how much space it uses and I agree and start download..again Mazza and mates pop up .. and a couple of mins later nothing unable to download error code 204038 try again and again and again... repeat to infinity so I think servers busy everyone wants warioware try diff game..

Quite like the look of Aquira ( I do live a good puzzle game) same thing use my free point check out how much space used and away we go... hmm error code 204038 everyone must be trying to download that too

Ok well wot do I do now hmm... just wait & try later & again & again & again in fact al last night even in the wee small hours of the morning!!

Still no joy so I think ok I will buy some more points and see if it is just thoose 2 games that are so popular ok 1000 point only £7 I'll give that a try WTF 1000 point £9.00 wots going on there DSi points cost more than Wii points (just to check I booted up the Wii shop channel just to check and yes still £7 for a 1000 points) so I bought them anyhow but what a weird price I thought then I viewed my receipt why are Nintendo charging us 19% VAT when the uk VAT rate is only 15% !?!@#??

so I have more point I think Art style there good games so I go for code and low and behold same old same old 204038 error Arrrggghh!!!

What is going on what are you doing to me Nintendo!!!!!

I dont want to try and download any of the 200 point games for fear of seeing the 204038 error message again and wasteing more of my precious(and overly expensive) DSi points!!!

Is any body else experiancing the same problems as I have being trying since 1:00pm yesterday and still can't download anything!!!!

And what is Nintendo doing charging more for DSi ware than Wiiware surely the development costs must be more on the Wii

And why are you charging me 19% VAT Mr Nintendo....

One slightly sad (only because he can't use DSiware) Nintendo fanboy

Sozzle for the rant I do love you Nintendo

Wow that's grim....nothing worse than getting a new toy and not having it work the way it should.

I've had none of the issues you mentioned once I got my router to recognise my DSi downloading the updates and software have been no bother. I got Opera, Wario and Code. Wario is fun but very brief, more of a tec demo as to the possibilities of what can be done with the camera for game use. Code is pretty simple but challenging, my mental maths is rubbish so i got this to help sharpen it up a bit.

I've not bought any points yet but it's a crime their not at the same rate as the wii points, I don't know how that will relate to purchasing a points card in a store, as now they can be used for either wii or ds, but I'm aware you can't share points between systems.

Try connecting on a different network, either at a friend's or at a wireless hot spot.
You could also try connecting at an hour where most in your region, wherever that may be, wouldn't be online, either during school/work hours if possible or late night/early morning.
I don't have a DSi (fighting the urge... ), but those would be the best first steps, I'm sure.

Sounds like your connection is hosed, downloading worked fine for me though I got a "couldn't connect to access point" message once. Probably an error on your end. Maybe check your signal strength and for possible interference.

Nintendo is increasing the UK prices because the GBP has lost so much of its value (1.09€ per GBP according to Google, 1000 points are 10€). It was announced that they'd be upping prices of various things over there. Blame your currency. Buy cards in stores if you don't want the price increase, if you can find them at 7GBP/1000, that is.

If your points were spent on the game then it counts as bought and you can redownload it later when your connection works again.

it depends on what internet you have. and what wireless roughter you have. yours sounds heck of crappy i feel sorry for you.
ps: i got hi-speed internet connection that works faster than you breath. just rubing it in.

This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

The connection is clearly good enough for him to post here. Sometimes certain devices just don't communicate well with certain routers or networks. I have a high speed connection, but at the moment my Wii and PS3 aren't working online, and I'm not sure why, despite the fact that I'm posting from my laptop with no problem.

i think he needs geek squad to come to his house so he can get better internet. geek squad is from bestbuy if that store is in EU land then i recmend you have that done

The DSi servers are getting hammered. Thats all. Its just so many new people trying to connect in UK and AU and it'll get worse when it comes to NA. It happens with everything new (especially a new system)

Just gotta wait it out sadly...

EDIT: And if the DSiShop servers are being hammered then it'll mess up for all games. Not just the popular ones (Tho I can see Bird and Bean working since I heard it was only 11 blocks)

When Brawl was released I thought the internets had exploded.

Yup, it happens occasionally when the Wii Shop updates. Just wait until things settle, and you should be ok.

Maybe his DS picked up the wrong WiFi signal or something?

Cheers guys for your posts

I have generally no problems with my Internet, I have a ps3 a wii and an xbox360 all comunicating wirelessly with no problems even my old DS phat and DSi manage to connect fine to my router (as I am viewing these forums on the DSi now as I post a reply from my iPod touch) so I known that the DSi works fine with the Internet.

Just to let everyone know I have tried at all different times of the day intact was trying at 3:45 this morning, and I am going to go and hijack my parents wireless router later and see if I can download there.

Yes bird and bean is only 12 blocks(I tried it after Reading your post wiirevolution) but that small file won't download either so wasted another 200 points for now, and thanks I did realize that I can redownload them again for free that is of course I can ever get it to download again arrrrrrrrghhhh!!!!!!!!!

I'll let you know if I have any joy later on, I was just hoping that it was quite a popular problem with the DSi but I can't see many peeps suffering with it on the Internet I just hope my DSi isn't knackered. Poooo!!!!!

Once again cheers for the support I'll post back later

That's nice of you.
(Kidding, I know what you mean, I'm going through the same with my Wii right now, which sucks since I just got the SD update.)

I feel your pain bud...Not too long, here in the US, they began to charge a surtax on Wiipoint purchases online. I would rather use my Wii to buy points due to the fact it was 20.00$USD for 2000 points. Now, it runs almost 22.00$USD for 2000 points. As far as your connection issues, set your access point to broadcast on channel 11. I had a horrific time on my Wii while using channel 6, which would most likely be the default. I had slow connection times and a lot of errors...

I haven't had the slightest hiccup in accessing the DSiWare store and downloading games -- which downloaded almost faster than I would like, since I enjoy watching the Super Mario All Stars sprites fill that box with blue liquid

I did get one error message while downloading Dr. Mario Express, but I'm not sure whether the DSi Shop was too busy or if my connection was too bad (it's pretty dismal here at home). Otherwise it has gone without a hitch. I tried again w/ Dr. Mario about a minute later and it loaded up super fast.

Do you know anyone else who has a DSi that could test it with your connection? That way you might be able to tell if it is something to do with your signal or if it is your hardware. Maybe you got a bad antenna, and need to exchange it. Every production line can churn out a lemon now and then!

It's probably your wireless connection in your house, but if you're that worried, you can always contact Nintendo.
