Topic: Question about Nintendo DSiWare

Hi NL users. I have a question about DSiWare.

I have sent off 3 week old Nintendo DSi XL for repair today and already I am missing it. I have linked my Club Nintendo account to Nintendo DSiWare. If, for any reasons, Nintendo has to replace my console or has to do a complete system reset, could I re-download titles back onto my Nintendo DSi XL? Or do I have to re-purchase them?

hopefully you backed up your games to SD before sending it off so that all your save data is intact, but what they'll do is this: if they have to replace your system, you'll get it back with your CN account all linked up to it, but the system itself will be devoid of your 'Ware. you'll have to visit the DSi Shop, redownload everything (it'll all be available for you to do so, it's just that it could take a while depending on how many games you've purchased), and then once everything's been re-downloaded, you'll be able to copy over your backed-up games to the DSi again, thus restoring your saved information. if you try to straight-up copy your backed up games back to the DSi, it won't work because the DSi doesn't realize those games have already been purchased/downloaded before, but once they've been downloaded, you're good to copy everything back over from SD like before.

i dont know why nintendo doesnt allow you to have an account and be able to move the games to a new system like xbox and sony does.... rumor is there is going to be a way to transfer your games from a dsi to the 3ds BUT i highly doubt that.... this is why i will not buy more then 1or 2 downloads a month cause i get my system from best buy and pick up the 2 year warrenty on it for like 15 bucks .. if anything goes out best buy will give me a new system but i lose all of my games

i figure though i would spend 10 bucks on a game rental service (what you dont get to keep the games either) but until nintendo allows game transfers i doubt i will buy more then 2 games per month

Awesome! Luckily, I did copy all of my DSiWare games onto an SD Card. The part I was worrying about, was coppying it back. I thought it wouldn't recognise them and say "the software cannot be copied". So you mean I can re-download everything even if I get a completely new system?

That's what happened for me, Ishmael9100. When i first got mine back, I popped in the SD card and tried copying everything back over, and it gave me that 'the software cannot be copied' message, but when I checked the DSi Shop and had re-downloaded everything to my DSi, everything i had backed up to SD copied back over to my DSi just fine (except for a couple games that had given me a 'some data may be lost, copy to SD anyway?' message when backing them up in the first place -- namely Robot Rescue, Littlest Pet Shop, and Ball Fighter). I don't see why they wouldn't do that for you too. :3

Just so you know, that's not a rumour, it's true. It was confirmed by Nintendo at their 3DS event in Japan last September.

i would think nintendo would then be forced to allow all users to transfer data between any DSI system then...i could see a lawsuit coming out of it if they go

If you want your games you have to buy our new 250 buck system

Awesome! xD Thanks for your help! I thought that you wouldn't be able to re-download content back from your Club Nintendo account.

The games you've bought are not actually linked to your Club Nintendo account. It seems like they're linked to the DSi itself through its unique WFC ID. When Nintendo replaces your DSi I believe they transfer the ID over to the new one. If you were to buy a new DSi and register it to your Club Nintendo account you wouldn't be able to use it to download the games you already purchased on your first DSi.

Hope that clears up the Club Nintendo thing. It's pretty much only used for registering games to get club rewards AFAIK, not for keeping track or transferring the WiiWare/DSiWare games you bought.

Oh, so they will transfer everything over? As long as I get my games back then I'm completely fine with it.

Unfortunately Nintendo is not entitled to do anything on their own system. You can sue them, but you're not getting anything out of it except for court fees.

Absolutely. Don't worry, Nintendo will take care of it. I was just making sure you knew that you can't transfer purchased games to other DSi's using your Club Nintendo account.

Thank you very much HolyMackerel. I now know. Hehe, I was a bit worried there. Thought I might lose my games xD.
