Hey people...as most of us U.S. users know, Rytmik debuted here yesterday. I figure we needed a thread to share compositions...or maybe I just wanted a thread to post my music

Either way--post em if you've got em. My first song (first thing I attempted with the software) was a little fun remake of the Chrono Trigger battle theme. Here it is:

Sounds awesome! I'm working on some Golden Sun and Phoenix Wright songs, so don't steal my ideas!

I need to make a Youtube account, so maybe I can win some points... :3

I have a couple short mario 3 themes done. Should I put one up for people to listen to what rytmik can do. It is the world music of 2 and 8. I will eventually put all 9 worlds (world 9 is warp zone)

@Swerd_Murd :sounds pretty good! Only one thing, Rytmik is not loop based...

That sounds great! Makes me wanna play CT.
My music is nowhere near as good as most of your guy's. But its still a great music app.

@martin - what terminology would you use to describe the app then? Not trying to be confrontational or anything...but to be honest, I really couldn't figure out what words to use when describing it. It's definitely not a line-tracker...and there's no real waveform manipulation a-la Korg DS-10....but yeah, loop-based would indicate that you can't actually write out rhythms and it's all pick and play (and clearly you can)...

Give me some idea of how to describe it and I'll edit my video

I think it may be called sample based;) My approach was to mix some features from trackers with easy to understand an quick edit features of drummachines. And with respect to limitations of DSi I chosed this way of using samples and allow just some basic manipulation with this source (but I hope powerfull enoug to make some interesting tunes!) and added more features for real song composition instead of virtual analog synthetiser simulation as korg. Rytmik goes quite different way than ds-10.

@marty-mcsuperfly - sample-based works. My main area of expertise (if it can so be called) is line-trackers, and I mainly wanted to stress via my naming that it wasn't Impulse Tracker's long-lost brother.

You guys did a killer job on the app--Creative use of the delay can help alleviate need for held notes...but the lack of a true note-cut feature is still taking a minute to get used to (couldn't get my bassline to sound right as a result )

But yeah--I'm really glad I have both this and the DS-10, cause as you said--not exactly twins.

My only other wishlist item was that some of the more useful synths (again, a user-preference thing, and surely limited by filesize) were sampled at multiple pitches...I ran out of available pithes with Synth 6 when approximating the Choir Ahhs and had to change sample for the really low notes...

And get an avatar! A simple capture of the Rytmik "boxart" or something would be nice--us forum dwellers love talkin to devs (and you aren't pretending to be a positive-response user, so double-kudos )

EDIT - nicely done.

ok, avatar set;) Btw. I started with computer music about 15 years ago with Fast tracker 2 and there were always flames of those who stated it above Impulse tracker and those who didn't Yes you are right, legato and volume envelope are not solved very easy. But when I made demo compositions, I found out that it is not as necessary to use it. You just need to get to know this app a bit and use its advantages and avoid what it lacks. When you use guitar you play it as guitar and not as an organ. When you use rytmik, use it as rytmik. I don't want to say everything is best way it could be, but I want to say we tried to design rytmik to provide as much fun with music creation as possible in given limitations. And if you would feel you run out of inspiration with included samples, well, there are some more rytmik editons to come;)

Little tip: if you want some notes of one instrument to play with echo or to overlap with polyphony and some not, just copy the track and split it in two tracks in one clip and select notes you want in each track...

@k-mart - that's what i assumed....good to know i'm not the only person that started with the mid-90s tracker era

It does everything it needs to and then some--my list of complaints about Korg DS-10 is already considerably longer than my list of complaints about your software...and I'm a snob anyway--don't pay any attention to what I say.

And yeah--actually figured that polyphony trick out doing the CT song...despite not really having any need for it. As soon as I finish my shift tonight I'm gonna invest some more time--I'll post whatever I make (that isn't gonna be a contest submission, naturally) in this topic.

How could I make a video to upload? Do I have to have some video editor, and put the music in as bgm, or is there some other way to do it? I've never uploaded anything onto youtube before...

@Swerd_Murd I love the Chrono Trigger battle theme! Creative use instruments to match the original too.

@zezhyrule Ah, I loved that song from Golden Sun.

@Taya: Not bad! I only have trouble when I need to select instruments that sound right and go well together.

SwerdMurd

@saya - that's pretty accurate to the original....try recording the song separately from the video, then using the in-line-recorded song as the music....that way we can still see it in motion but we get full-quality audio (i'm trying to figure out how to capture the video given my limited recording equipment atm)..great start though seriously!!
