Topic: IGN's Top 15 DSiWare Games

With the launch of Nintendo's eShop all but imminent, IGN has officially decided to write off DSiWare and mention their top 15 games, completely ignoring upcoming titles with promise to come (Flipper 2, Ikachan, Mighty Milky Way, etc.) and those they haven't/couldn't bother to rate, by using their previous ratings as a guide. Here's the list:
15. Tetris Party Live
14. Mario vs. DK: Minis March Again!
13. Mighty Flip Champs!
12. Cave Story
11. Art Style: AQUIA
10. Dragon Quest Wars
9. Starship Defense
8. Photo Dojo
7. Art Style: PiCTOBiTS
6. Dark Vois Zero
5. DodoGo!
4. Link 'n' Launch
3. Touch Solitaire
2. Flipnote Studio
1. Shantae: Risky's Revenge
Well, there you have it, feel free to discuss! Here are just some of my thoughts on it:
1. #'s 15, 10, 8, 5, 4 and 3 really don't deserve to be on this list at all. Well, maybe DodoGo! , but that should be more around 14 or 13 than 5.
2. Games I'd put on that list if I made it: Aura-Aura Climber, X-Scape, Trajectile, Digger Dan & Kaboom, A Kappa's Trail and Number Battle, which could easily replace all those that I mentioned before with a little rearranging. Wierd.

Edit: Seems IGN haven't even reviewed Digger Dan. Good of them to list their top 15 titles without actually considering all the candidates...

@Rob_mc_1: haha, i blame the fact that Aquia is on that list at all — i hate that game with a passion that could consume suns. if it were possible to erase from my Shop history that I had ever downloaded that game at all, i would do so in a heartbeat. clearly its inclusion on this list blinded me somehow D:

also, why the hell is touch solitaire on that list? it was pretty horrible in comparison to the other solitaire offerings on the service.

@tbd - It's because when IGN was reviewing it, they were using some capsule review system a la Nintendo Power, where the highest rating was treated as a 9/10, which is also why DodoGo! is so high on the list. That and when it reviewed DSiWare lacked the meatier options it has now.

@Birdman13: you'd think someone would've taken all that into account... yeesh. ah well :3

I don't like ranking games. It doesn't make sense why people should say buy this game instead of these 14 others.

The reason why Mighty Milky Way and Flipper 2 aren't considered is because IGN is not writing off the service for good, but they are doing their favorite games that came out on the service's 2 years of existence.

I'd personally rank Aquia as the most engrossing of the Art Style DSiWare titles.

On the gameplay front, it's deceptive; while you may only be switching tiles along the vertical axis, it takes a tremendous amount of speed and strategy to survive without your air running out on the higher levels.

On the presentation front, it's unparalleled. The way the music changes with your actions is wonderful: your chains add successive layers of different melodies, and your switches and movements control another layer of percussion. Everything fades as the air runs out, then bursts open again when you finally escape. Fantastic!

@warioswoods: believe me, i know i'm probably in the minority around here on that one. the game just bores me to absolute tears, though, and i gave up trying to 'get it' and/or make myself like it about a week after i downloaded it. glad you enjoy it, though :3

Also, Flipper should be on there.

• 2-in-1 solitaire shouldn't be on the list, especially at that position
• Mario vs. donkey kong: minis march again, mighty flip champs and cave story should be higher
• Little red riding hood's zombie bbq should be on the list
