So I picked up Flipper 2 and there doesn't seem to be any thread for discussion so I figured I'd start one... Anyway I really like the game. The gameplay is almost like a Warioware platformer, there's one action for each screen which changes and it's up to the player to use quick timing and anticipation to navigate across the screen and pick up coins. It's really simple and fun. I also love the aesthetics, the pixel art is great, animations are superb and the music is zany. Content is a bit slim though, Story Mode is done quite quickly(less than an hour) but there's a random mode and an editor which are cool additions. The game feels a bit like a proof of concept(as does the first game) but it's definitely worth the £4.50 I paid for it.

I'd love if Flipper 3 and 4 were eShop games which develop the content of Flipper 1 and 2 respectively, and have content due to the fact that gameplay is already established.

Ridiculously epic music for a game about a goldfish. Also, banana gun FTW.

So, does the story mode not save unless you beat the whole thing in one sitting? I paused it after the first world and stopped and now it seems to have started over. Not a big deal because I beat it pretty quickly but still would be good to know. I've also noticed the difficult room the reviewer was talking about. More impressions later, fun so far.

Well, I just beat it. That was pretty darn short. I swear that was barely even 45 minutes. Anyways.
I was really really excited for this game since the second it was shown off. Worth the wait IMO. The warioware style gameplay was fun. Graphics were great. Music was nice. I can see Hugo Smits was trying to make a game perfect for small bursts on the go. It works for what it is. My only complain is that the only way to know what to do is look at the bottom screen but the game tosses you into the action right away.
There wasn't a way for me to do a level without dieing at least once in the beginning of the later levels. Oh well, it's only a minor gripe. I haven't tried out the other stuff, but I'm looking forward to it. Wish there was just one more world in the main story and the option to play any level from the main game.
Still good overall. Thank you so much Mr. Smits.

yeah.. sorry for the no-saving...The people I tested the game on played the story-mode out in 20 min. So I thought it was a good 'challenge' to let them go through it in 20 min. However, as it turns out a lot of people need 45/60 minutes!

Also, a lot of people think the storymode is the game, but it's not! the random-castle-mode is the main mode with over 300 levels! the story-mode is basically a tutorial mode where it picksup the pace slowly

Thanks everybody for liking it and buying it! that really means a lot to me!

Bought the game today and I'm going to play it again this weekend if I can get all this work done. Good job on the game Hugo. Keep 'em coming.

Plain old gamer :)

Hmm, isn't it strange when the actual developer randomly shows up in a thread about their own game? It's almost like he's stalking the forums...

@LordTendoboy if only you knew I'm sitting in the bushes outside of your house watching you play the game late at night fighting my urges to ring the door bell and tell you how to get more points in a specific level

Developers arent allowed to watch forums - thanks to Sopa and acta soon over here in Europe, haha

Well, to be serious again: Its good to know you can leave feedback to some of the dsiware devs I think. Try the same with EA for example...or Ubisoft, LordTendoboy...they never look the forums for feedback. It just doesnt interest them what their customers think..."Money has been transmitted - the deal is over!"

Now decide yourself what both situations mean for future games...

Hey Hugo... yeah random castle mode has a ton of different levels in it but I feel you may have made a mistake by making it so you have to do Story mode first. I've been playing random castle here and there for the last couple of days and it's really fun but there are a few rooms, especially on hard difficulty, that require godlike precision and timing... can be frustrating.

Also when do you think you'll be evolving into an eShop developer?

Right now i'm working on my last DSiWare project (200 point game) after that all focus will go on 3DS development!
