Topic: DSiWare.... Is Nintendo First Party Support Coming?

Anybody know. Everything Ive seen is NOT Nintendo and if it is, its an application and not a game. Mario vs DK: MOTM is incredible and its the reason I bought the system, is there anymore Games coming from Nintendo on DSiWare? What about VC? I haven't heard anything about that either. My dissapointment with this system is getting really high as Ive said before I really do Not like the Click response when pressing the buttons so I play my DS games on the DS Lite. Anyone know about the DSi exclusives or DSiWare Nintendo support would be nice?

Uh, most of the games on DSiWare ARE from Nintendo. That's their games. Pretty sad isn't it?
It's like they don't give a $%^k about it.

My guess is they thought third parties would jump all over it but there was hesitation at the beginning and now everyone thinks DSiWare is a joke, which in my opinion is even though there are less then a handful of good games.

Tails

Thorium Wars will fix that its coming out on Monday ^^! if that sells extremely well (by the look of the game on the trailer i just watched WOW!) this will be a hot seller for anyone that loves blowing stuff up on the go

I was really regretting buying the DSi - even thinking maybe I should have bought an iPod touch... which would have been the first non-Nintendo gaming device I've owned since the C64. MvDK has persuaded me that it wasn't a total waste of money, but like you guys, I'm waiting for more. (I'm also waiting for demos - even at six quid, I'm reluctant to splash down money on something I've not actually tried hands-on - I believe demos have been a major driver for the iPod Touch games, so... bring 'em on!)

I never regret buying a DSi, I even bought 2 (I need 2 to transfer pokemon)
M vs DK is great, Dr Mario is great, Art Academy is great, sudoku is great...everything is great.
the sad thing is I can't play that little piano game on my DSi (

Dr Mario is great... but I played it to death on WarioWare.

More first-party DSiWare support is coming within the 4th Quarter.

@ryanknight717.... no Flipnote is not a Nintendo product. Its a fun app but I grew very tired of it very quickly, but it was a free app and the online support for it is great. Def one of the few highlights of the system.

Ive pretty much decided that the DSi is gone. Im goin to wait until closer to Christmas to see what DSiWare is lookin like and if its not lookin any better Im selling it and puttin the money aside for all the Killer Games coming out 1st quater on PS3. It still hurts my feelings cause I really thought Nintendo had a really good....easy... thing with DSiWare. 2D side scrollers, RPGs, Mega Man, Capcom Games, VC and we got puzzles

Flipnote is a Nintendo app... one of the Iwata Asks interviews covers how it came about. The internet side of it is run by Hatena because Nintendo partnered with them (Nintendo didn't want to deal with it themselves/couldn't quite think of how to take on that kind of load, so they went with Hatena to help them out instead), but the app itself was all Nintendo's doing.

We need QUALITY, Nintendo. Please give us bigger bang for the buck!!

I saw the DSiWare service mostly FOR puzzles and apps. RPGs and Platformers and such would be better as full retail releases in my opinion. Puzzle games aren't worth retail price, and it's nice to have smaller stuff right there on the screen. The problem is, the apps are not as good as what's available on the itouch.

For example: the My Notebook app...there's a notebook function included on the itouch. 6-1 dictionary? I have a free (no ads) Chinese-English dictionary with over 70,000 words with handwriting recognition. 6-1 dictionary has 15,000 words. I also have a free translator with 40 languages (probably not a massive vocab for any of them, but most likely ok for tourists). Both of those products are better than the DSi's $5 dictionary and get regular updates and bug fixes. The only real competitive app right now on the DSi is Flipnote, since the itouch browser is better too.

The main reason I got a DSi was for DS retail games. The touchscreen/motion control is just not as precise as stylus/button controls, so I don't really like playing anything more complex than tetris on the itouch. DS for games, iphone for everything else for me (or a quick game of text twist or iball if I don't have my DSi handy).

I wouldn't have bought the DSi if I had a DS Lite. In that case, I wouldn't have upgraded until a Virtual Handheld came out. I don't understand why people are complaining to the point of selling their DSi though. If you didn't like the games/programs on it already, why buy it in the first place? Why not just wait until there was enough stuff on there to warrant the purchase for you?

@Token Girl.... I absolutely love my DS Lite. Its right up there with my PS3 in my opinion. I upgraded to DSi for the larger screens and DSiWare and after getting the system I feel like the system is a step backwards. The screen are bigger and nice but the "pop" feel the buttons have and the weight of the handheld really throw me off big time. I just feel like it was a waste of $200 bucks, I really thought Nintendo would have big support for it and where are the DSi exclusives at?

@theblackdragon..... thanks for the clarificationa, I thought Hatena actually make Flipnote.

Yeah, i can totally get button issues. It's a personal thing. I like the poppy buttons. I think it's a little too narrow though, I wish the bottom part was a little thicker, it gives me hand cramps sometimes. I just waited until enough DSiWare came out before I made the purchase for it to be worth more than a DS Lite to me. I also didn't already have a DS Lite. Like I said, had I been in your shoes, I would still be waiting to see if it was worthwhile to upgrade. I can't really imagine spending $170 on a game system without enough worthwhile games for me. I'm not generally a launch day adopter. I've done marketing before, and marketing is nothing more than the art of coming as close as you can to lying without actually lying. I always wait and see if things pan out, because I've been burned before.

@Token Girl.... yeah I did jump the gun with Nintendo this round again as I did the same thing with Wii and ended up selling it during the year of very few releases. I also bought the DSi on launch day with hopes of a VC cause I track down vintage Game Boy games cause I love the old school difficult titles and just figured it was an obvious handheld VC service with the hype for Wii VC and it hasnt happened. But Shantae IS coming to DSiWare in 3 installments so Im very happy with that. Hopefully we will get a GB Color release of Shantae cause I cant track it down anywhere.

I, for one, am very happy with my DSI and would never even think of selling it... I love the releases thus far and I think over time they will only get better. (I am one of the ones waiting for MyNotebook and Solitaire, though, so I can't wait for those.)

I agree with Token Girl. I saw the DSiWare service as being the place to download all those little diversionary puzzle games and apps and other small to-the-point games that are played on the go. I think that is the strength of a download service because I like having hard copies of my larger, more expensive games. (Not to mention, larger games would require a lot more memory, making the system even more expensive.)

The music player, photo app, note-taking app, puzzles, calendar apps, clocks, calculators, etc. are precisely what I was imagining on the small service. I don't want my big games on there. VC would be nice, agreed. But the new big games should be on the shelves and coming to us in cartridges. (I personally think Shantae should have been a cartridge game.)

I think the Brain Age titles on the DSiWare are a perfect marriage, too. That's the kind of thing that you want to launch on the fly when you are in the mood to do little diversionary games. Plus, having it saved right there on the system encourages one to do the game on a more frequent basis.
The Clubhouse games are also perfect for the DSiWare service. Those are the kinds of little games that should be on a download service. They should have WiFi, yes; but still, those are precisely the kinds of games that go perfectly on a handheld without having to buy a full version of the game to have to swap out the cartridge when you want a less intensive diversion.

Pop is another one that's great for the little download service, as is Dr. Mario.

So far, my only complaint with the DSiWare service is that there aren't enough apps. My DSi is my constant companion. I want more apps to take over the uses of anything else I might have to stuff in my purse. I would LOVE a calendar and a video app.

Demos, though, would be nice. I think that we need to take up a petition and ask for demos on the service. It is very difficult to know if I will or won't like something on the service. And the dollars can still add up if you keep buying things that you end up not liking much after the fact..... It makes me so cautious because I can't even resell the item. (That's another reason to keep the main quality games on cartridge. The ability to resell takes the sting out of buying a game you turned out to not like.)

@JuneBelle..... Yeah I do see your point and I had a Way different idea of what the service would be and really should have waited on buying it. I actually dont see why DS Demos aren't available on DSiWare as it would put the games out there for us to play without having to use the Wii as a hub for downloading. I actually think if the DSi DLC games had a demo availability i would just play mostly demos and not buy the games because honestly most of the games are just small demos of what is or could be a larger game and would prob hurt the sells more than help.

...and that's exactly why they don't supply demos so easily, that would hurt DS/DSI sales, totally agree...
