Hey everyone heres a tread to speak about a type of game that I really like: Tower Games There are actually 5 tower games in the DSi ware (if im not wrong): -Viking Invasion -Fieldrunners -Don't Feed The Animals -Starship Defence -Libera Wing
But the thing is that no one of them are like the "basic" tower game, all of they have differences and a completly different mode of gameplay.
I only got 3 of these ones; Fieldrunners, Starship Invasion and Libera Wing. But maybe I'll get Viking Invasion.
Well lets start with Fieldrunners, its a really basic but great tower game, there are just 5 levels but each level can be played in 3 dificulties (easy,madium and hard) and in 3 different ways; basic(4 towers and 100 waves), extensive (6 towers and more than 100 waves) and the third mode is the one that never ends, using all the towers you can, like a survivor mode Each level is totally different, sometimes enemys appear from 1-4 different places, and each one got something special =D The towers can be updated 2 times, making them better, anyways these cost money, like putting them, and of course per enemy you kill you get money, they are lots of different tipes of enemies, ones faster, fly enemies and lots of things But the GREAT thing about these game is that it has no roads... eh? YES! Not like most tower games, where the monsters follow all time a road, here isn't so, here YOU make the road, yes you make it with the towers you put, you can make a extremly big mace or just a short but powerful road. You lost when 20 enemies have reached the "other part" of the map. In my opinion, one of the best tower games and for only 500 points.
Starship Defence is a great game with alot of levels, the different thing about these game is that you don't loose when the enemies reach the end of the road, you loose when you got no more hp, yes you have hp and the enemies attack you, a nice addition to a tower game. You can make upgrade and with a type of "diamonds" the enemies drop you can put speciall weapons, a great game I think, a nice addition to the tower style games, its a must buy I can save for the lovers of these type of games.
Libera Wing, a tower game a little different, no not a little, really different. One of the big differences is that you cant' put towers, yes thats right, the towers are already there, and you can't put more, eh? then what do you do? Ok you can use a type of starships to make your tower powerfull, and thats not all, you can also use lots of abilities like area damage, slow down area, fast area, etc. Another thing is that the enemies got different colors so you need sometimes to change your tower color using a hability to make more damage, when you kill them you get a type of "diamonds" when you get 16 diamons you get 1 starship more. But here is were the great thing comes, tired of be always the towers, want to have the feeling of being the attacker, in these game YOU CAN, making each levels with 2 steps, 1 where you are the attacker and 1 where you are the defender. I have Just downloaded it today, I find it great, it is a REALLY different type of tower game that really go outside of the "rol".
So I wanna hear your opinions about tower games and about the ones you have and find great. There are much different types of tower games, and it will be great to see a game where the enemies attack the towers, where you can mix the towers, where you can be something thats NOT a tower, maybe a tower defence game where instead of towers you make humans, maybe your own army? Well there are much different ways to make a tower game, but anyways there will be nice to see again the "basic" tower game =D
I heart Starship Defense. I wish they would make a sequel for that game...... @ Hulk: you got some good ideas their that would put a nice twist on the genre.
I'm not a big fan of the genre, but Star Ship Defender (name of the Japanese release which is what I have) is awesome, mainly down to the look and feel of the game. Of course the menus and such are in Japanese, but I still enjoy it a great deal, though some of the weapons have been a bit trial and error for me. If anyone can clue me into what the green icon is in the "buy" menu that has a number "10" and can be upgraded to "20 MAX" using power crystals is, that would be super. I've tried looking for online FAQs or strategy guides, but cannot find any.
@ Sean Aaron: Alright I knew what you were talking about when I read your post, but I had to be sure so I dug this one up off my SD card. So you know how after every round you get credit for collecting those obs? They will give you a bonus percent after every round of play to increase how many how orbs you get. You always start out with the bonus of 5% after every round and you can increase the amount of percentage you get after every round by spending obs to rise your bonus percentage to 10% and then to the max off 20%. This really comes in handy if you dont want to save your orbs early on in a stage to get those power crystals. I hope this post could help as I know that I dont quite explain things as well as others in my post some times.

shrugs Our last TDG (Dont Feed the Animals) was a surprise to everyone(everyone but Nintey). I use Wikipedia a lot to keep up with everything that we know thats coming out. You can try to check their “coming soon” list and see if you notice anything from the tower defense genre on that list.

The genre originated in Starcraft and was popularised in Warcraft III, and there's a heck of a lot of creativity in the tower defense maps there. I've played maps where there are siege rounds when enemies attack your towers, and maps where you have units you can move and control, and maps where you can mix towers through upgrades. All very fun stuff.

Oh thats cool that there are alredady some of that tower games, wich that ones of them comes into the DSi, anyways I have hear lots of people that starship defences is great, awesome and bla bla bla, idk, I don't find it so good, its a fine tower defence game but I like more fieldrunners.
