Who else is with me?? I just love this game... the music, the controls, the races, the garage... it's like better than the other Asphalt games (which cost more money and are full on games) but this one is amazing! Who else thinks so?

Yeah I love it

Last night I looked up at the stars and thought "Where the hell is my roof gone!?!"

I really enjoy it, im just terrible at the Cop Chase missions. lol
The game has everything with one exception - WiFi multiplayer. If it had that I would actually play this online more the Mario Kart DS.
Mabey this will be addressed in Asphalt 5, which im sure they will make for DSiware considering how successful this seems to have been.

...also I know the iPhone version is cheaper, but the customised controls on the DSi work so well as I prefer to have accelerate on the R shoulder button and brake on the L shoulder button, with my Nitro close by on the A button. The DSIware version is supperior in my oppinion.

At first I was like oh crap I just wasted another 8 bucks (Wario Snapped)! But I quickly found out that its actaully a very fun arcade racer. The upgrades actually do make the cars control better the graphics are pretty decent for a DLC game. Draw distance is better than I expected and it has motorcycles, now granted they aren't my favorite by far they are still in there nontheless. Ive been playing quite a bit now and having fun.

It's one of my favorites on DSiWare as of yet. I'd call it my 3rd favorite

I agree! Great game! I have AUGT1 and AUGT2. I have been off the last two days and I have managed to run through the entire circuit, unlock everything and accumulate over 6 million in winnings. It combines all the great features of 1 and 2, I would say 3 but I haven't played it. I will say I like 1 and 2's map screen a bit more. It is a bit odd though that you can gather so much money, but, it makes it less frustrating! Plus you are matched on your vehicles on any course, that's nice!

I think for the most part they are on par or better than the first two games that are cartridge based.

The garage is completely pointless - you get so much more money than you can possibly spend - I'm at level 45, have bought everything I can, and have $5 Million cash to spare - they might as well have just scrapped the money part of the game, since it makes the game feel unrefined and cheap.

Also, what the hell makes the "wanted" bar increase? It seems to happen automatically, regardless of what I do. If I drive by the road rules, or break every one imaginable, my wanted bar goes up at the same rate. Not that it does much, as police chases are so ineffectual.

The collision detection is horrible. The lightest tap against an opponent next to a wall will total their car.

There's so many... cheap elements like this that keep reminding me that Ashpalt is a budget game. It looks good, and drives well for a budget game, but it has some glaring faults that a halfway decent retail release would never have - which is basically the definition of the developers, Gameloft.

Yes, you can earn cash pretty easily, but wouldn't the opposite suck? lol. I love this game... nothing more, nothing less... it's awesome! Compared to the other titles available for the same price point (with the exception of Mario Minis) this is great!!

If a game is going to include cash and ask players to buy stuff, then there needs to be a point to it - It should be part of the challenge and excitment of the game - winning cash and buying upgrades should feel rewarding. It isn't with this game/

I can't think of any other racing game that has an unlockables so easy to come by. It's a real flaw in the game.

The reason you earn cash is to increase in levels although you can use it in the garage as well.
For instance if you choose not to upgrade and spend cash early on and bet big time on the duel near the beggining of the game you can effectively skip a couple of levels, but obviously that is hard to do if you havnt upgraded vehicles and bought new tunning kits.
Its actually a clever way of managing levels because even if you suck at this game as long as you can finnish with any cash eventually it will build up till you are on the next level. Also later on in the game you sometimes have to raise quite a bit of cash (race two or three times) to upgrade to the next level unless you dont spend so much in the garage and on new cars.
Also if its too easy for any of you, just race with all originals parts instead of tunning your car up and im sure you find it more of a challenge.

Does anyone know how this game compares to the iphone version? I own both and am having a hard time with the latters control. I noticed there seems to be more car models. Is there any point to unlocking women? Can you chase others in an actual police car in the iphone version? That's all I'd like to know.

That's a question no one seems to be able to answer yet.

I own both and am having a hard time with the latters control.

On the iPhone? Have you switched to Motion Controls yet? They're much easier to use than the touch-screen controls. Just tap the icon in the upper-left corner during the game to switch control methods.

I noticed there seems to be more car models.

Is there? As far as I know, the games are the same. Of course, I haven't found any FAQs or comparisons that explain what (if anything) is different between them.

Is there any point to unlocking women?

Sure. The first lady juices your car to go faster. This is useful in the beginning because you're racing with a relatively low-end stock car. Getting that boost really helps. (Once you get the Camero, hold on to it for a least a few vehicle upgrades! Not all vehicles are equal in this game.)

The second lady reduces police penalties. Presumably this is for later in the game when you get so many cops after you that you end up with quite a bit of money going out the window for tickets. I personally didn't find this one all that useful since you make way too much money anyway.

The final lady gets you more media coverage when you terrorize the city during your race. I believe more media coverage translates into more dollars at the end of the race.

Can you chase others in an actual police car in the iphone version?

You don't get a police car proper, but you have a police siren on your car. (Which is actually kind of annoying.) All you have to do to win is track down the car in the lead and do a takedown on them.

Can't wait to get this when I get my DSi. Online multiplayer would've been perfect especially given it's included in the iPhone version.

The DSi version doesn't have the ladies (unfortunately?), and you've finally explained a bit of a mystery to me: On the DSi game, it has that cop chase challenge where you have to take out the lead car, but I couldn't figure out why it was called that, since there isn't a cop car involved at all! Now I know that the iPhone version has a siren on your car, so that explains it a bit. Not sure why they dropped the siren for the DSi version and still kept the name of the challenge, but I guess that's a good thing if the siren really is annoying as you say.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

Multiplayer appears to always be for 2 WiFi devices near each other. That's true whether we're talking about the iPhone or the DSi. (Which kind of sucks.)

You're right! I was looking at the videos for the DSi version and I didn't realize that the linear track of picking cars/races didn't include picking a girl. FWIW, you're not missing much. The first lady can really help in the beginning, but not so much that you absolutely need her. It is disappointing they didn't do some sort of replacement, though. Just toning down the graphics a bit probably would have done the trick. (And changing it from "ladies" to "passenger".)

It's a bit of a double-edged sword. The sound of the siren was annoying, but the lights at least gave you an idea that you were working for the cops. You can see it in action in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogcOEvDfGdM#t=3m30s

I can't imagine why Gameloft completely removed the siren. Perhaps the light effects were more trouble than they wanted to deal with? Or perhaps it was too difficult to adjust the car models. Do the cop cars that chase you have glowing lights?

Edit: I think I answered my own question. While I didn't see any cop cars in the videos (do they even exist in the DSi version?) I noticed the brake lights on the cars look noticeably different. The brakes are quite obviously a texture swap on the DSi, with none of the glow effect that's visible on the iPhone. If I ever see a cop car in the DSi version, I would imagine it would look similar.

So here's my wild guess: The siren was removed because it looked like crud (i.e. unrecognizable) and/or played havoc with the texture swaps Gameloft is doing on the vehicles.
