It took me multiple tries so good job. Didn't you love the fight?

Bassman_Q

Yeah. It was definitely epic. I must've got toughened up from games like Thorium Wars.

The part where the screen goes blurry when the commander wipes out all the buildings kinda hurt my eyes though.

I'm kinda sad that Earth became so desolate.

I am loving this game, too. Very much in the vein of TRON if you've ever seen that movie, right down to the tank battles and stylings of the movie. (Funny thing that the first sequel is coming out this Christmas... Tron 2.0, just in time!) Stopped for a few days to play other games but the stylings of this game are just incredible There should be some kind of award to bestow upon this game and its developers. Q-Games, I think. And it's awesome they are also responsible for my other favorite dsiware titles, Trajectile, DigiDrive and Starship Command This company also did StarFox Command originally for the DS. You can really tell they put so much into each of their games. So much replay value and stellar graphics/sound/gameplay. A+!

I beat this game with all quests completed today. This was a great game which, at least as a single-player experience, had as much gameplay as many DS retail releases priced at $29.99. The graphics and music are simply awesome. I could have used maybe a little more reward for completing all the side quests, etc. like a sound check to listen to the soundtrack but overall the game was very good. I found it very satisfying to drive/fly around with my rank X ship and decimate enemies. Definitely in my top 5 DSiWare games, probably in the top 2.

OK, I know this game came out ages ago and people have probably got all the impressions they need, but I just had to write a review for this game. Read the NL review if you want the best opinion, but I just really felt like writing a review for this.

3D Space Tank / X-Scape Review

X-Scape is a sequel to a 1992 Japan-exclusive Game Boy title, X (Q-Games developer Dylan Cuthbert worked on the original).
It takes place twenty years after humanity defeated the evil alien race known as the Xenomantix, and while you flew off to explore outer space, your commander stayed behind on Tetamus II to lead the colonisation effort. After returning to Tetamus II though, it seems your commander has gone loop-de-loop and taken control of the human colony network, along with his Imperial Army. He tries to kill you, and you quickly decide that it's best not to take the 0.000000001 chance of survival if you choose to fight him. After fleeing planet to planet Winow, you set off to defeat the Imperial Army and figure out what's happened while you've been gone.
You do this by taking control of VIXIV, your state-of-the-art spaceship. Tagging along with you is your ever-present sidekick, VIXIV's support bot. He guides you through the game and feels the need to comment on everything that happens, much like the robot in the excellent Starship Patrol, another Q-Games creation.
There are two control methods. With touchscreen control you drive around by sliding the stylus left and right on the touch screen to aim, pushing it to edges to turn the ship, and pushing the stylus to the top/bottom of the screen to move up/down. When in flight, the accelerating is done for you, and all you have to do is aim and turn. You can press any button to fire your weapon, and there are onscreen buttons to switch to missiles or bombs and hack into data cores. With button control, the stylus is swapped for the D-Pad, and the onscreen buttons are swapped for the face buttons. Both schemes work well, but can take a bit of getting used to. There are two different sections of the game: open-world sections allow you to freely drive or fly around a planet, shooting enemies, hacking buildings, blowing up stuff, and completing missions and side-quests. Tunnel sections are the parts inbetween. Travelling through numerous warp gates on planets, that can be opened by collecting 'power crystals', launches you into a tunnel that takes you to a different planet. You have to reach the end of the tunnel in the given time, dodging obstacles, shooting enemies and collecting time coins. Unfortunately, this is the only way to move between planets, but the tunnel sections are quite fun.
The main missions are great, with a variety of tasks and challenges to complete as the story slowly progresses. You'll find yourself destroying a mothership, helping a train escape a heavily-guarded planet, defeating a giant crab, and other exciting tasks. The main adventure should take a good 8 hours to complete at least. Of course, it doesn't stop there. By entering power plants that appear on most planets, you can take on a variety of sidequests, involving collecting coins, racing through tunnels, defeating swarms of enemies and defending bases. They add a lot of meat to the game, although far too many of the missions are search-and-destroy. Another element of the game that adds some replay value is the rank system. Working your way up from F to erm, X, by earning points, you can upgrade your ship's abilities to make you stronger for the battles ahead. You can also try unlocking every warp gate and destroying every single hostile on a planet, which can take a long time. Altogether, X-Scape has enough meat on its bones to make it worthy of a retail release.
That's not the only thing that impresses, though. X-Scape has 3D Tron-like visuals, with simple, futuristic polygon shapes and simple two-tone colour schemes. Some of the colour schemes are slightly ugly (planet Zagueel) or headache-inducing (Mapate) but the futuristic look of the game is generally a joy to watch, and I didn't encounter a single slowdown in the entire game. The music is just as brilliant, with some wonderful spacey tunes that add to the feel of the game. (There's even an easter egg hidden in the game: after taking the fake Dr Yamano back to the rebels, skip through the text until the support bot says "What's that?" then wait for two minutes.)

From the beginning to the epic final battle, X-Scape is a joy to play and a joy to look at. For only 800 DSi points, this is definitely a must-buy. By Calum Prescott

@ LuWiiGi:

Well written review. "Best Opinion" is a contradiction in terms though, and not a credit I would give to NL's reviews either way. As of late especially, I don't agree with their opinions. This game in particular, I find to be one of DSiWares most over rated.

By best opinion, I really just meant best review. Thank you for replying though, I am glad you liked the review.

How long is this game? Hours, Levels, whatever

Still rockin' the GameBoy brick. Yes, I do believe it's portable. It fits in my satchel.

@Cloudcult10: 8-10 hours. 10 tops if you complete all quests. This is one of my favorite DSiWare games. Worth 800 points.

If you gonna get a 800points game, or any dsiware game, be sure to not to be a stupid game like wario ware smooth moves, or a game that just isn't worth the points like the oregon trail, get really good games like these one, a game that can stay in you console for a while.

Man's worst enemy is laziness.

@Funky Gamer: Hey now, let's be careful about giving too many details about the game for those who merely want impressions.

@Natie31: Are you perhaps 31 years old? : ) If you are just getting into games, you may want to hold off on this one because it can get challenging in that you are controlling multiple things at once (i.e. driving the tank, aiming and changing weapons). With that said, the game does give you a pretty thorough tutorial and it is one of the most "complete" games on DSiWare. The soundtrack and graphics are great. I only think a few 800 point games are worth the money and this is definitely one of them.

@rosebud it is the immpressions thread. I would say its fine to talk about the game, and what happens in it no? If they don't want it spoiled, then why read?

BTW, do YOU have any suggestions for me?
