@7.Alejandro_Talavera: Apparently, graphics WERE of high concern to a good number of people by 1995, when Earthbound was ignored in favor of Chrono Trigger based on graphics above all else. Not that this deterred me in any way, as my dad had the good sense to buy BOTH!

Personally, I was indeed playing NES and original Gameboy games at the same time, not caring about graphics. I still don't, really. Good graphics are nice, but gameplay is key. If only today's kids (who are only half my age) understood that...

Really? I thought it would be the boring and dull gameplay.

@Starcross64: The gameplay is not "boring and dull," thank you very much! It's a slightly improved battle system based on the popular Dragon Warrior/Quest series' battle system, so I see no reason that would be the deciding factor. I have seen a number of pathetically unprofessional reviews for the game that were published in game magazines of the time, and graphics were among the main concerns listed. Of course, the "this game stinks!" marketing tactic doubtlessly hurt sales as well.
