Topic: Worst DS/DSi/DSiWare Game You've Played?

The only topic I could find on this was pretty old, so why not start a new one?

For me, the game that takes the cake is Pokemon Dash. It was such a huge disappointment for me, and is arguably the worst Pokemon spinoff that I've played. The game quickly became repetitive, and you could only race as Pikachu; I love that little yellow mouse, but it was disappointing that you couldn't race as something else. The ability to import designs of Pokemon you owned from the Gen 3 games was cool at first, but even that soon lost its luster; you couldn't really customize the course that was created from these.

In the end, it really didn't have much substance, and I loved it so little that I traded it in a few years ago. It may be partially responsible for why I lost my taste in the racing genre.

For me, it would be Yoshi Touch & Go. For years during the DS's lifetime, I regarded the game as crap. What really annoyed me was its combination of lacking content and being very repetitive. Baby Mario's crying got more irritating the longer I decided to play as well. After seeing my step sister play Yoshi's Island a few times off her GBA, I think I was expecting that kind of experience from the title and it clearly wasn't anything close. I haven't played the game for years, but with how many great DS games I do have, I doubt my feelings on Yoshi Touch & Go would really change if I were to revisit it now.

Children of Mana easily. I loved Secret of Mana on the SNES so when I saw Children of Mana at a local store I decided to pick it up. Boy was I disappointed. Instead of an RPG it was more like a Dungeon crawler. The things that made Secret a great game wasn't in Children. So yeah needless to say I traded it in.

Yoshi's Island DS, purely because it was mediocre developers actively making worse what should've been a great game and having zero clue on how to build on Yoshi's Island or why it was a fun video game in the first place.

My sims kingdom. I thought the Wii version was pretty bad, but that one looks like freakin Zelda, when compared to this horrendous animal crossing clone.

Some of the worst in my opinion include:

Petz My Monkey Family (DS): Repititive, very limited content, I was done with it after 1 hour as a kid. Basically take Nintendogs, cut off 4/5 of the content, and replace the dogs with monkeys. Some mechanics, like breeding different breeds to create new ones, are fun concepts, but the end result just makes you wish you were playing Nintendogs, which is much more immersive and interactive.

Max and the Magic Marker (DS): Boring, not very engaging, can get very tedious. It objectively isn't the worst DS game ever by any means, but I have developed a grudge against it personally, mainly because, unlike Petz My Monkey Family which only costed me €8, this game was a waste of €40! A lot, especially for a kid like me back then.

System Flaw Recruit (DSiWare): The main gimmick of this game is that you move your DSi around and shoot enemies through the outer camera, basically like the 3DS's Face Raiders. The problem is that the DSi lacked gyroscope controls, so it relied on what the camera saw to detect you turning. It barely worked. I sometimes would have to turn 360 degrees to get it to detect it. And once you get past that, you find that there's only one game mode. Just one! Just a 2-minute endurance round, that's it! No variety, no endless or time trial mode or anything, nothing! I give it credit for its originality, but if you have a main gimmick for your game, make it work. A total waste of €5.

Snakenoid (DSiWare): The game's main gimmick is that it (supposedly) combines Snake and Arkanoid. You move your snake around with the stylus on the touch screen and you hit a ball towards the blocks on the top screen. The main problem is that you can barely aim the ball; whenever you hit it it basically flies off at random, which makes the game very tedious. And once the enemies and boss fights come around, you're simply done for. I don't even remember what made me buy this as a kid, one of the biggest waste of €5 ever.

WarioWare: Snapped! (DSiWare): Such a letdown. I played this game once for a few minutes at my friends house, who got a DSi before me. When I got one, I instantly bought this game, thinking it would be fun. However, the game is just terrible. It's gimmick is that you play WarioWare microgames with the inner camera; you have to move your head and hands to play the minigame. The problem is everything. It would never detect where my hands and head were. I tried different lighting and locations, but it would rarely read it correctly. Then you get to the microgames. Those are split over 4 roller coasters, each containing 5 microgames. That makes a total of 20 microgames. 20! And remember, these are microgames, games that are over in 3 seconds, 20 is shamefully low. And you can't even shuffle them! You always play them in the same order on the same rollercoasters. I know that they can't cram a ton of microgames in a DSiWare game, but I was expecting more than 20 in a set order! And the microgames aren't even that great. You just wave your hands and head around. They aren't nearly as engaging, random and funny as the regular microgames in the regular WarioWare games. Combine that with the horrible controls, and you've got one of the biggest letdowns in my DSiWare history, right up there with Snakenoid.

The Sims 2: Pets for DS.

@Morpheel: Oh yeah, that's right! I totally forgot about The Sims 3 on DS. I don't know about The Sims 2 Pets, but I can tell you that The Sims 3 is awful and suffers really badly from the DS's limited power. Things like aging, kids and death don't exist, and I find the game to be very tedious because you can only give your sims up to 6 tasks, and they forget them very easily. And I don't know about The Sims 2 Pets, but The Sims 3 is VERY buggy. I've had it crash multiple times. Sims games on DS simply aren't good apparently.

I got a whole ton of DS games from when they were new so I probably got some stinkers waiting to be played. I bought a number of hopefully A+ RPGs at release, and the rest cheap on clearance. (though avoiding license shovelware like the plague)
Children of Mana is one I hadn't played but I only bought used. I had already been disappointed by Dawn of Mana for the PS2 earlier in the year (and so I only also bought Heroes of Mana when I was able to get it sealed cheap years later).

Don't know if I had played any real stinkers yet. Among the Atlus-published RPGs, one I didn't put much effort into is My World, My Way. Maybe another time I'll try again. Master of the Maze (I think it was called, also known as Dungeon Maker in other regions, and on PSP) seemed pretty interesting at first but then got pretty repetitive.

@Poketendo: I actually enjoyed 3. Compared to 2 Pets, 3 is a masterpiece programed by the sim gods themselves.

It was sad too, because I liked the Sims 2 ds and hoped pets would be at least a bit similar.

Eco Creatures: Save the Forest
The box makes it seem like it's some sort of Zelda Minish Cap meets Bomberman Tournament (GBA) sort of adventure game but it's mostly walking back and forth between Tower Defense game areas, which is all the game really is. Boring story and repetitive visuals, where all you see is grass and trees for hours into the games. Long tutorials and confusing controls anyway.

Probably Thrillville: Off the Rails. I got this as one of my first DS games, so that was back when I was young and stupid! I expected a fully fledged Rollercoaster Tycoon game where I could create my own park and rollercoasters... Man was that a disappointment.

I like makin' games!

Waiting for Kirby Air Ride 2. One day, it will come. One day...

@Pianomanfreak: There are many far worse, less fun games than Lunar Dragon Song. Overlook that little flaw and the game is actually decent.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

The sims 2 games for DS were a real letdown, so repetitive it hurt. however sims 3 was pretty good, at least for me.

@Vinny: I've actually been debating on picking that one up on the Wii U VC. What didn't you like about it? I'm curious since I'm not sure if I should bother with it.

@Trinexx The level design is so generic. You have to draw shapes to change Wario's disguise and it generally doesn't recognize the first time you do it. You have to change it all the time so it gets annoying really quick.
There many times where you have to stop to play a minigame, so the pacing is also affected.

@Vinny: Ah, I see. I also looked up the review here, and it wasn't very positive. I was hoping for a Wario Land type game, but it seems this isn't really what I'm looking for.

Thanks for saving me a few Rupees!
