Yes, the HUGE library.

Yes, the HUGE library.

If you're new to the console, there's over 10,000 points worth of games that are genuinely worth downloading.

It is huge.

DSiware is the only reason. The camera and microphone are short distractions. I don't mind about losing the GBA slot, I've still got my trusty SP.

It isn't.

What it lacks in GBA and some DS game compatibility, it doesn' t nearly make up for in minor distractions and relatively minor DSiWare.

the library is only 'huge' if you're a fan of puzzle games and messing around with applications. the GBA still has a much larger library with far more variety at the moment.

And finding the games you want on GBA is much harder.

And why does everyone act like the DSi can only play DSiWare games? DS games still work. And beyond that, I can still think, off the top of my head, some 3000-5000 points worth of non-puzzle games worth downloading

Point one is fair enough, although the top end GBA stuff is leagues ahead of anything DSiWare has.

For point two, you could probably toss a zero off of both numbers, then change points worth buying to games worth buying.

@WaltzElf: the point is that though both the phat/lite and DSi can play DS games, the phat/lite have access to almost the entire existing GBA library (it's not hard to find GBA games used in dedicated game stores or online) whereas the DSi only has DSiWare and maybe one or two DSi-only games so far, neither of which are omg-must-play titles. DSiWare is nice, but so far there's no omg-must-play titles on the service either. Until we start getting DSi-only releases for serious and start seeing more variety hit the DSi Shop, i wouldn't recommend a DSi to anyone but a fan of larger screens, puzzle games, and/or sound/picture applications.

I'm sorry but there is not 300-500 GBA games worth buying. At MOST, there's 100, and of those 100, you'll have to search REALLY hard to find 90 of them.

Beyond that the DSi plays DS games - and when I look at my DS collection, I count 50 games... and I don't have all the good ones (hell, I don't have all the good RPGS ALONE, and that's my favourite genre). Between the DS, and DSiWare, the DSi easily offers just as many really good games as the GBA does... enough so that I don't miss the GBA slot at all - despite having a GBA collection of around 40 games, I haven't touched any of them since buying the DSi.

I'd argue that the GBA games are more for novelty or interest or nostalgia purposes than anything else - much like all retro consoles. DSiWare is far more relevant.

And, if you have a passing interest in puzzlers - DSiWare's puzzle lineup blasts the GBA out of the water.

@WaltzElf: do you not hear the people clamoring for a Virtual Handheld service? with the phat/lite, you've got no need for it (unless you're waiting for GB/C games, lol). you may not be playing any of your GBA games at the moment, but it's still a valid concern for someone else who may play games in their collection more regularly than you.

and another thing -- you like puzzle games, but not everyone else does. it's still a valid concern too IMO.

People want virtual console releases on the Wii, too, but I don't see anyone suggesting they hang on to their N64s in preference to the Wii.

I've got nothing against the GBA - but, to me, it makes far more sense to either invest in a GBA (or, better yet, GBA Micro) and GBA games, or a DSi - which is the future of the DS brand. DSiWare will continue to be supported, and not just with puzzle games, and there will be DSi-specific retail releases.

There is very little reason to buy a new DS Lite new, and there is plenty enough reasons to justify the purchase of the DSi for its features - now or in the future.

that analogy would make sense if the DSi was actually a next-gen handheld, which it is not. it's more a tangent to the current generation of handhelds; it's a little more powerful, and it's got a different focus (downloadable games vs. backwards compatibility), but without the must-have DSi-only games backing it up, it's still not fundamentally better (yet).

that said, i wouldn't buy a brand new Lite myself, but that's only because used ones are now plentiful and much cheaper :3

Why would anyone hang onto an N64 anyway? I generally try not to remember that era of gaming.

N64 was epic. Rare was epic.

DSiWare is what I play most. Yes, I'm a puzzle fan, but there are other, non-puzzle games that I do play on it. It's ok that you don't recommend the console, but as an absolute fan, it would be remiss of me not to offer an alternative perspective.

It just is. Put it in your pocket and take it with you on a trip for a couple of days and that experience will answer your question for you. Those of you saying it isn't better haven't actually had one, and you're lying if you say otherwise.
