I'm considering buying a Final Fantasy game that I can play on my DSi, but I wonder which one would be the best. Here is what I was considering:Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, or Final Fantasy:Rings of Fates. Since I'm a newcomer to the series, I was considering Final Fantasy IV. So, what is everybody's thoughts on which game I should buy?
My first suggestion would be Final Fantasy IV as well, as I think it's the most enjoyable out of all of those. It's got a fairly interesting story with some cool characters, and it sports a fun and well-designed active time battle system, at least imo. It's just a really good game, and it may just help you get over your "Final Fantasy is overrated" kick, Sonic.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Haven't played Ring of Fates, but that's a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game -- it's not one of the main final fantasies. Go for FFIV, it's got a better story than III.

It just occured to me that SuperSonic is asking us to compare Apples to Oranges to zucchinies - FF4 is a story-heavy game, FF3 essentially relies on its character development, and Rings of Fate's strongest aspect is its action-based combat and puzzles. All three are great games that cannot and should not be compared. Whicheverone you'll like simply comes down to which aspect of an RPG do you like the most.
Would you recommend Links Crossbow Training as a Zelda game?
Yes. A short one, but a Zelda game nonetheless.
Ok, remind me never to ask for a game recommendation from you, because anyone looking for a Zelda experience is going to be disappointed by Links Crossbow Training.
I find this whole debate amusing, considering how much people agreed that Dragon Quest Wars was "not a Dragon Quest game"!

Have you never heard of a spinoff? They're pretty common nowadays.

Yes, but a spinoff is not what people have in mind when they ask for a game.
More examples!
If I ask "what Mario game should I buy?" - I'm not thinking of Tennis, Golf, Olympic Sports or Fighting games - I clearly want a platformer If I ask "what Sonic game should I buy?" - exactly the same thing - I want a platformer. If I ask "what Metal Gear Solid game should I buy?" - Do I want Smash Brothers, or, you know, a Metal Gear Solid game? Because Snake is in SSB. What about Soul Calibur? If I ask what Soul Calibur game to buy, do you think I am looking for a fighting game, or one of the spinoffs?
I could go on, and on, but when someone asks "what Final Fantasy game should I buy?" They want a Final Fantasy game, not a spinoff.
The point about giving advise is that you give sound advice. At the very least this guy should know what is, and isn't a real (read: not spinoff) Final Fantasy game. That's only fair.
