A few disturbing items I found in that article: Weekly Microgame Contests are currently limited to the Japan region only. They are going to bring them to the US, correct? That would be a deal-breaker right there. And you can only save 90 Microgames on the DS. That sounds like a lot, but most WarioWare games have over 200. Perhaps you can send them to the WiiWare companion game and store them there? Those are a couple things I'd like to know.

@LZ Aha.

I think Wi-Fi isn't as limited as it appears; there's more to it. I just can't exactly remember...

It might be this: "You'll be able to share your handiwork with the rest of the gaming community over Wi-Fi" - rough paraphrasing of Nintendo Power and concerning Showcase: "You can go to the distribution center and use Wi-Fi to access a growing library of games made by other users" - again, rough NP paraphrasing.

Um, I think you misread something. The game comes with 90 microgames already

@LZ
"Abe:
It also possessed the merit of increasing the number of microgames that can be saved. You can save up to 90 games."
Straight from the article.
EDIT: However, the game also comes with 90 microgames, so I can see how you were confused.

Is that so? Well that's about the size of a regular Warioware game, so it's not all bad.

"Abe:
But if you connect to the Internet, you can download new microgames distributed by Nintendo, so even if you don't make a single microgame, you'll have plenty to play. (These additional microgames will only be available for a limited time.)"
Alarming.
"Abe:
I wanted people to play WarioWare: D.I.Y. every day. Like reading comic strips in the daily newspaper. So I asked five professional manga artists to contribute, and now you can read new works by five authors every day when you play. "
Awesome.
"7. WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase: Software to be distributed via WiiWare on April 29, the same day WarioWare: D.I.Y. is released for the DS. Available for 800 Wii points."
A) I think they meant March.
B) 800 points, not too shabby.

800 points...I guess I can live with that. I was fearing they'd make it 1000. Well at this rate I'll be able to pick up a Wii Points card soon after DIY's release and get cave story as well.

Hey, isn't anyone going to talk about the kinds of games they want to make? I currently intend to make a whole set of Internet-themed ones. Obviously, the challenge will be to avoid the kinds of memes and running gags that will make them instantly stale. Hopefully I'll have the creativity to make something witty that people don't expect.

Is anyone else thinking of starting new "Genres" of microgames?

Kid_A

I'm thinking of creating a character--or set of characters--that all my minigames will center around. I'm so pumped for this!

this looks cool : D

Cringing is really fun.

I plan on making several games across several genres, like controlling a little shuttle through meteors, a shooter game where you tap enemies to kill them, and a flight control-type game.

I had a dream that I got the game last night! Too bad it wasn't real, but I will get it this month!

www.playasia.com in Hong Kong, they usually don't get their games until 3-4 days after the US release date, because they're in HK and the cheaper shipping options can take a while. You can get faster shipping (fedex, ups, dhl) though, for extra cash, and I'd guess shipping from US to Germany and HK to Germany would be similarly priced.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.
