Well, I decided to buy both the Autobot and Decepticon versions of the DS Transformers: War For Cybertron. After playing through the first few missions of the Decepticon version, I'm happy to say that this is the best DS Transformers game EVER. Yes, after playing through the depressingly mediocre movie versions previously, this War for Cybertron game blows it out of the water!
The controls are much smoother, there are voiceovers that are reminiscent of the original G1 characters, and the plot is quite interesting (explaining why there is a war on the planet Cybertron). The graphics look nice, though some characters seem a tad bit blocky. When you begin a mission, you select 2 characters to use, each with different vehicle forms and weapon types. When you defeat an enemy, the character you use with gain XP, which will allow your character to level up. There are also hidden data disks to find, which can be equipped like a perk system (but only increases certain stats). There are melee weapons to use, along with blasters and missiles. Health and weapon ammo is regenerative. You can find energon cubes to increase XP as well. Switch between characters at any time by the press of a button (when you play as one character, the other character will regenerate faster).
When you lock on a character, it will show one of three types of weapons that the enemy is weak against. There is also a multi-card multiplayer mode that I haven't tried yet, but you can "bet" one of your robots against another player, and the loser must go on a rescue mission to recover his character. You can also collect data disks from the other player if you play with opposite versions of the game (Autobot version vs Decepticon version).
There are many characters that will please Transformers fans, from Megatron and Starscream to Optimus and Bumblebee, and there are many to unlock as you play through the game.
Controls are like this: Robot mode: Movement- D-pad Transform- Lower right touch screen Melee attack- X button laser weapon- Y button Lock on- L shoulder button Switch targets (while locked on)- R shoulder button Jump- B button
Vehicle mode: Accelerate- B button Brake (when driving)- X button Turbo (when driving or flying)- L shoulder button Switch characters- A button Transform- lower right touch screen Fire weapon- Y button
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with these games, and if your a Transformers fan with a DS, go and pick up either the Autobot or Decepticon version (or buy both!)
Sounds good. Gonna go look at some gameplay vids to decide. I'm gonna get the 360 version, waiting for some reviews first though
IGN gave the 360 version a 9. But I think they could have given the campaign mode some more compliments. The story is very nice for fans of the G1 series.
Also, the game has exclusive characters. The first one revealed is Ramjet for the Decepticon version. (Play through the story to unlock or use the code 99871)
Made it through a few more missions, and the difficulty seems to ramp up if you don't know what your doing. Picking certain characters to take on the missions is pretty important, as well as deciding on what attributes to level up.
I'm still having a blast though, the voiceovers for the "cut scenes" (which are just portraits of the characters with narrated text) are pretty entertaining.
@irken004: You bought both!? I considered it too. Toys R Us has Autobot Silverbolt as an exclusive for both versions on DS(I don't get why its not two different Transformers, like one Autobot, one Decepticon), I bought the 360 version.

Yep. Target had a buy one, get one half off sale on some DS games.
And about the DS exclusive characters, you can unlock all the autobots AND decepticons on one cartridge, but if you have the autobots version (for example), then the decepticons you unlock can only be used for the local multiplayer or arena mode.
I'm still thoroughly enjoying these games, I'm on the 4th mission on Decepticons, and looking for some Data Disks that I missed on previous missions.
@pikmaniac02: Judging from the youtube videos I've looked up, the DS version is a 3rd person action/shooting game and you can transform into a vehicle and back anytime as well as switching between your choice of two characters on the fly.

I just hit up Toys R Us for their buy 1 get 1 half off sale, got both, gonna play them later and found a Wii game I didn't even know existed called Pirate Plundarrr that looks pretty cool, gonna dig up a trailer and see if its worth keeping.
@irken004: Do you know if they've released more than just the War for Cybertron Optimus and Bumblebee toys? I figured you might know since you're pretty into Transformers.

Those are the only those two available now, but soon there will be a megatron and soundwave figure added.
@irken004: I just started on the Autobots version not too long ago and I've got 100% on the first two stages. To tell you the truth, I thought I was gonna have a harder time playing the game because of how the controls were in the demo I played at Toys R Us. The key thing for me was learning that the L button initiates both lock-on for enemies and strafing. The characters control like tanks otherwise and that has never been a positive thing in my experience. Enemy weaknesses, although I thought it was a terrible idea in the beginning actually makes a ton of difference starting in the second stage. Exp building is neat. The vehicle modes are pretty awesome. Good game so far, the times they have voice acting segments are pretty cool too.
Did you hear that in the Wii version, you can't even transform!?! ...its like those toys I see of Hot Wheels cars and the bottom of it is a robot when I go to the toy sections of retailers. If it doesn't transform, its not a Transformer.
Oh, in case anyone has the game, the code for Autobot Silverbolt is 10141 and Decepticon Ramjet is 99871

@TwilightV: You'll need to clarify since I've bought both the DS versions and the 360 one, but not the Wii. Can you transform ...or does the game transform for you? If you do the transforming, it can be a Transformers game, if it transforms for you as in a cut scene, Transformers game it is not.
